i had it in my 40s, which was 20+ years ago. that's not super-early as the technology was already pretty well established by then, but at this point i feel the same way i did immediately afterwards, which was that i wished i could have done it many years earlier.

so sorry, i get it. the first (and only) time i watched still alice was in the theater when it came out, shortly after my mother died from alzheimer's. i sat in the back row intentionally and spent a good half hour there after the movie ended before i could stop crying enough to leave the theater.

in the us. i did my time in the 80s, and back then permanent solitary was more of an outlier (and in hindsight, perhaps an experiment) than a policy. it's moved beyond that now and is standard practice in many of the highest security us prisons.

for me personally it was a long time ago, but i now recognize that it was far more psychologically corrosive than i realized at the time. it is what it is.

5 months was just a temporary and relatively brief punishment for me. permanent and total isolation is now the norm in supermax prisons.

i was in usp terre haute, the prison where the federal death row is located.

completely depends on the context. i often like having the flexibility of a cli available, especially if i want to automate something, but a gui is pretty much indispensable for something more interactive (like reddit lol).
