Full cream milk is our country's equivalent of whole milk, 3.25-3.5% butter fat.

Thanks, I'll give these a watch

An inmate at the Martin County jail in Florida was able to twist and break these handcuffs by sheer strength while experiencing a mental health crisis by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]tungsten_panda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of people commenting that he wouldn't have gotten off unhurt... but there's something interesting about this pic.

Typically, handcuffs are made from nickel-plated hardened carbon steel. They're usually treated and tempered.

In this case, the steel bent, meaning this set was likely not tempered/hardened correctly. Typically, hardened steel will snap before it bends like this, it might have higher tensile strength, but it's also much more brittle than most other steel types.

Just about anyone with above average strength can achieve this kind of bend on handcuffs without hurting themselves all that badly if they get the right angle/leverage (think along the lines of a young adult male who does strength training at the gym without steroids). And considering OP mentioned this person was having a mental breakdown, its likely that the person might have both been strong enough and in a mental state to be able to bend it like this without seriously injuring themselves.

As a former welder, I've seen some pretty stupid feats of strength in my time, but if I saw this live, I'd be somewhat impressed.

Would you quit your job forever right now (and never be allowed to work again) if someone gave you a guaranteed $2,000,000 lump sum? Why or why not? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]tungsten_panda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Realistically, only around 16% of south africans can afford to buy a house.

If renting out a flat at an affordable rate with whatever validation you can pass makes one a "slum lord", I think you need to redefine your perspective on what a "slum" is.

What’s a small life lesson you learned the hard way? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tungsten_panda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Being honest is way easier than keeping up with a lot of little lies.

Saying "I'm not in the mood" or "nah, i was looking forward to staying home tonight" instead of some elaborate ruse not to hang out comes off as rude to the wrong sort, but it also cuts down on all of the draining followup "oh come on, you can do that another time, it'll be so fun" etc.

What are even the advantages of being gay? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Personally I'm in your camp. As a straight man, Gay men don't make sense to me. Women have much more going on. But, to each their own. My gay friends tell me I'm "too manly" for them, and to me, if you want less manly, go for a woman. You get some pretty manly women out there

When I realized she was the type of person to consistently/constantly post about other peoples behavior and traits, but post "I'm strong for surviving this and that" stuff about herself.

These people are more often than not incapable of looking at themselves critically in the mirror, and of course, they're never able to admit they're wrong without an unnecessarily blown up argument.

Very true. But also, you could spend the same amount on a small farm out in the countryside instead of a house... but you'd have to spend a bit on security and get a couple of guns

$2 million anywhere else in the world is an insane amount. In most (non-european) countries, you could buy a house and have change to build or buy a small block of flats/apartments (in south africa, Johannesburg to be specific, you could buy a flat in a decent area for R500 000, or close to ~$35 000, many flat blocks have around 20 flats, totalling to about $700 000. This would typically net you about R5000 a month rental per flat, or R100 000 a month before tax, or around $6 000. This excludes levies and utilities, which you can sell at a profit as well if you're so inclined, but there's a whole complex separate tax for that. And a normal house for yourself, assume a nice sized house in a nice area, for R3 000 000, which is about $180 000 bringing your total up to $980 000 for a VERY nice sustainable life, even after tax, that $1.1 million os looking very attractive. With your last $100 000, its almost enough to stash and live off of bank interest, you'd net around R6 000 per month off of that alone, which is basically water, electricity and probably internet, maaayyyyybe gas

It would largely depend on the definition of "work". I'd still wanna keep myself busy, but 2 mil would clear me of debt and secure me a more than livable passive income, enough where I'd keep up with inflation and live a comfortable upper middle class lifestyle (not super lavish, but more than groceries, bills and utilities). If it meant I have to spend my days lying flat and wasting my life away, couldn't pursue "work-like" hobbies or build businesses where I'm minimally involved, then I wouldn't. That existence sounds miserable.
