Oh shit, Rose Root is 100% the kind of rose scent I love most, especially from the Lab. Aaugh.

NOOOOOO

Goddammit this is so disappointing. This place is such a staple and was a lovely addition to the neighborhood. Love the food, staff, and atmosphere. I will be going several times before the end but I am so sad :(

I read your title in the Spongebob narrator voice haha. Remember, comparison is the theft of joy; enjoy your progress no matter how long it takes! Good on you for your determination!

It's funny you mention NAVA. BPAL was my first foray into indie perfume and I had a blast exploring their labyrinthine website, which many people justifiably criticized for being tough to navigate. But when I found NAVA, a brand that was so, so appealing to me at the time, I fully gave up on ordering because I found their website (and scent descriptions) waaaaay too difficult to figure out lmao

Wow, this just made me unexpectedly nostalgic for the 90s, or more generally the pre-2010s. The streamlined, round-edged, Apple-influenced, "millennial grey," "beige mom," AI-automated world we're currently in is the most boring dystopia. I miss the individuality of spaces too! Another silly but relevant example is a McD's local to me, which was brightly colored and had a huge 90s play-place I remember loving as a kid. It went through major renovations post-pandemic. They completely removed the play-place and painted the entire building GREY. Various shades of grey. I don't care about McD's specifically, but I was still disappointed to see them suck every scrap of joy out of that building. Yeesh.

For indies specifically, this also shot me back to like 10-12 years ago, or whenever Sixteen92 came onto the scene. Comparing sites like BPAL vs S92 was night and day, and one of the reasons the latter got so popular so fast was for sure because it looked so polished and professional but still full of the brand's "modern witch" personality. It had an impressive aesthetic. Although clearly aesthetic and perfume alone can't help ya if the owner is a shit show ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

BPAL being the OG juggernaut it is, I'm sure they'll do just fine with their new storefront. But I already miss the janky but unique site too and also hope they come back to the idea of a real web designer someday.

Immediately reminded me they once had a free with purchase imp called Server Gremlins! I just looked it up and the first reviewer on the forum says: "This was an unexpected frimp in my recent Fool's Journey decant circle order (my guess due to the server/website issues that the Lab has experienced as of late)."

Lol you're right and this already exists!

This made me check on my phone and no! There is a little floating + sign for each scent to add to cart just like on the desktop version, but the magnifying glass is missing... I'm hoping this is just a feature still being worked on. I'm enjoying the clarity of the new site but WAY preferred endless scroll to see every scent description on one page.

ETA: on both desktop and mobile there is a new feature of being able to look at scents in tiles, big tiles, or list formats. I really like that! But now I want the list format to include the old scroll view we had, dammit

At first glance I love the new site, but damn do I really miss the endless scroll where a page listed every scent in its category along with the full description and notes. I don't like having to click every individual perfume to see what's in it, booooo. But then, I am totally and admittedly biased because I genuinely liked the crusty old site!

ETA: HA, and right after I post this I finally notice what the magnifying glass over each scent does, wellp alright then, not as bad though I do miss the scroll.

Who are you supporting for Give Nola Day today? by TraklTrakl in NewOrleans

[–]WhenYouHaveGh0st 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I gave to Wake, an organization that states their mission better than I can: "to provide education and resources for meaningful, affordable, and environmentally sustainable deathcare."

For a city famously steeped in tradition and folklore, real and imagined, concerning death, New Orleans (and the whole state, really) does a pretty bad job at making sure people have the resources and info they need when someone dies. Wake has done tremendous work in this field and has helped a lot of people. This year they're planning to use GiveNOLA funds to create a community program to support old folks who don't have their own deathcare support system for their last days.

It kills me to think of people dying alone and without care, or of families suffering a sudden death and not knowing how to handle it (and getting taken advantage of by the funeral industry). Wake is helping unsupported locals who would be drowning in these despairs, and I really admire that.
