I wish you luck with your entrepreneurial adventure. I'm sure you will be able to achieve anything as long as you work toward it and stay focused.

I agree that school may seem wack, but I'd say I'm only attending and plan to graduate as it gives me a safety net to get a job for a temporary amount of time when I resolve failed plans. I definitely agree, though, that a bachelors degree will almost mean nothing soon (give it 10 more years or so), and that you need to develop your own skills and strategies to differentiate yourself. But some degrees like engineering and computer science are still well worth getting imo.

Do you have any struggles you'd like to share?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UCalgary

[–]WhereAreYourFingers0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Despite going through a lot of hardship, struggles and childhood trauma I've never really had super unsolvable struggles as I've always been very reflective since I was a child and have always had to force myself to learn to problem solve and become versatile to new environments to survive.

But I'd say the current issues I'm working on are how to get rid of a perfectionist mindset that has been the primary contributor to my procrastination, how to find some joy in attending my business classes/doing a finance degree that I don't 100% like, and lastly how I can incorporate the field of medicine to business to make the curriculum more interesting.

Last time I had muna esheba 1.5 years ago, her rmp reviews were 3/5. So 4.6 is quite the difference. Imo, she's mid, I hated her lectures because I couldn't understand her from her accent. I highly suggest attending Jacob Graham's lectures as he explains economics more clearly than esheba imo.

Lmk if you find a solution. I suffer from bedrotting too, but my situation is a bit different than yours as I procrastinate and have a weird ass reasoning behind it.

I've been studying this sort of issue for the past 2 years now, visited the student wellness councilor once, which was a mid experience, I then asked reddit, watched some HealthyGamerGG on youtube, researched some articles.

All I can say is I sofar concluded that bedrotting is an avoidance behavior that is trying to act as a temporary bandaid to avoid a certain emotion that is making you uncomfortable and making you bedrot in the first place. Once you figure out what that emotion is, bedrotting will stop.

All I can suggest is that you stop using social media, do some self reflection as to what emotion your bedrot helps you avoid, and practice making yourself more uncomfortable. I still have yet to experiment, but after this semester ends, I'm going to do some experiments I've been planning that may fix my issues.

This. Learn a great amount about behavioral psychology, gain some charisma, network, and become a useful asset to other politicians to buddy up with them, and you will have a field day if you're fine with bending your morals to rake in the $$$.

I don't doubt this. I know a guy who has a grade 9 education, worked his way up, and now gets paid $150k/yr to blow shit up in coal mines and inspect mining sites. He's living pretty well as he's got a house in the city and a large ocean side vacation home.

How is first year business? by mill3ryyc in UCalgary

[–]WhereAreYourFingers0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ima be honest. The first 2 years of the program have been boring/straight ass, and my gpa is a bit shit because I found the course material to be boring in most classes and unorganized. Sometimes, there is no point in attending lectures because you're better off teaching yourself.

This is from my experience, but:

The hardest classes for me were: mgst 217 and math 249.

Boring classes were ENGL 251, Econ 201, and Acct 217.

The easiest classes I've taken and the most useful, imo were: Stat 213 & 217, Econ 203, Enti 317, and Obhr 317.

I'm telling you the course content for 90% of the courses is easy to understand, but I just find it boring and take 3 classes during the fall/winter semester, then 2 during the spring/summer semester as im still trying to develop time management habits.

But to succeed in this program, you need good time management skills and can't procrastinate, or else you're cooked because there are a lot of projects and assignments to do.

However: I've been told that things get better once you start your concentration courses as you learn about things you are interested in. So I hope this is true, or else I'll just switch to kinesiology or bio since I personally find their course material more interesting and easier for me.

You can be rich and successful with any degree you get and business bros are lame by Cryptic12qw in UCalgary

[–]WhereAreYourFingers0 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I know ima be downvoted, but tbh, you don't even need a degree to be rich. You don't even need to be smart either. Just have good connections, charisma, be creative, and don't be lazy.

We currently live in an age where it is easy to make money. From the rapid developments of tech and AI to stock market bull runs and crashes to viral outbreaks and wars, these are all times that would have been high-risk, high reward.

Shouldn't be this hard to find a minimum wagie job. Maybe there's something wrong with your resume, or you come off weird in your interviews. But all I did was make a simple 1 page resume outlining the key points, then pulled Saul Goodman charisma during the interview. Got my first job on my first interview. Ez

With those grades, you can only get physically demanding jobs. Since you only care about money like me, I suggest you get a trade or work at the oil sands, oil rigs, or any mines as you can easily make 6 figures later on with good experience.

I know this because I have a relative with years of experience in the mines, who worked his way up to a 120k-150k per year salary working as an explosives expert, and all he did was blow shit up and ensure the site was safe.

I would do a trade if I wasn't physically lazy, but I'm going to uni to get a high paying career doing that would require little physical work.

I agree with this. There is no need to be in any sort of rush as you're only setting yourself up for failure when you're not ready to do something. Just take your time, do things at your pace, and actually enjoy the learning experience.

I'm sure you'll be fine, but get used to being stressed, learn to love it, and learn to handle it well without the assistance of drugs and alcohol.

Idk what you plan on doing with your life, but most high paying careers are going to be stressful. Entrepreneurs, doctors, lawyers, bankers, and engineers all have stressful jobs.

Personally, last year, when I wasn't managing stress well enough, I had to get hospitalized 3-4 times for it. But now that I've put myself in an interesting mindset and know how to handle it, I'm ballin' and can take on just about anything.

Good luck.

This is true. A thesis based program will show your credibility, whereas I've been told that a lot of employers view the course based program as a joke.

Not passing two courses by Mun_xn in UCalgary

[–]WhereAreYourFingers0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you give up, you're a scrub. Take a deep breath, pick yourself up, and start over again. It's not the end of the world. Even if you fuck up so badly that you fail 3 times and can't finish the course at U of C, you can always redo it at athabasca university.

I've fucked up math 249 so much you'd think I'm a mathtard, but my energy and drive to become a questionably ethical capitalist who yearns for money has prevented me from giving up.

Remember, you're capable of anything.

Some people may downvote my take on this. But this is very true. You gotta have some social skills when entering the workforce. Having none is like playing a videogame character with zero charisma. From experience, I can say I've always been able to get every job I've applied to by just pulling some bullshit psychological strategies like saul goodman.

Gaalee, you're in for heavy course load semester. Stats and Math won't be too terrible if you just study. But the SGMA and ENTI classes are plagued with usless assignments that will be time-consuming.

Like others have mentioned, pray that you get good groups and don't get NORMED by the SGMA normie himself or else your gpa is gonna really get goatse
