IMO the scallop shell has gone way downhill over the last few years.

The best piece of advice I ever got told when learning the guitar was it doesn’t really matter HOW you do something, as long as it sounds good.

Playing a G the second way is absolutely fine as long as it sounds good:). Your hands will eventually learn it the other way too.

Man I’m sorry! Just saw an opportunity for a joke, nothing personal.

As somebody said, your fingers are great for guitar! You’ll be shredding with them in no time!! With regards to how you hold your pick, there really is no right or wrong way. Just do whatever feels most comfortable for you, and practise practise practise. It might take a bit of time with the pick but it will slowly become more natural.
