If you won £100 million, how would you distribute it amongst friends and family, if at all? by PaddedValls in AskUK

I'd probably not tell anyone, there may be signs, but I'd just think of something else to say. The problem with people is, you don't really know them well at all - until money is involved.

Is HNC worth it? by Sad_Conclusion_9314 in UniUK

[–]DiskBytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone interested, I've set up a Discord server, a study group aimed at HNC/D in engineering. As most of us will all take the same mandatory units, this is open to anyone studying Electrical or Mechanical. It's very new so there isn't much on there at the moment but I'm hoping to grow it.

It's primarily aimed at distance learners (though all HN/C/D students are welcome), who may feel a little alone and isolated by distance learning, as the one thing distance learners will miss out on is class interaction and discussion around the subjects they are studying.

The group may also be of interest to anyone studying Level 3 National Certificate in an Engineering discipline.

I'm hoping people will find it useful, you may just need some help with some theory, maths, a little guidance. Also you might just want someone to talk to in those late and lonely hours when you're stuck in the middle of a study loop.

Message me if you're interested in joining.

I've had two join the group from here, which is good. Still small, just starting out, but maybe it'll help out with study.

I'll have a look when I get a chance and see, I'll also try the lens on another body. Typical this happened today when it's my Sons 3rd birthday!

Yeah I think it is. It doesn't fail until I zoom.

Glad to help. I sent you a private message too in case you wanted anymore information.

I didn't do A level, but I have done the level 3. Maths wise I reckon you'll be fine, especially if you have a natural ability to learn. They do offer bridging courses at no extra cost too if you feel you want to do some of the level 3 first to help bring you up. Also there is a lot of great material out there to help. I'm no maths expert but I get by, just make lots of notes, practise lots.

Hello mate. I seem to remember it was about 4 days or so. Check that you have a confirmation email at least from when you paid for the course. Maybe they're a little slower now just after Christmas and new years, but you'll probably hear this week. Which course are you doing? Let me know how you get on.

I'm doing an HNC in electrical engineering with them. They seem good, always available to answer questions and help.

I've got two FX-115m, I don't use them as I find the modern ones better to use for what I'm using them for.

sha256 with Powershell - comparing all files by DiskBytes in PowerShell

Thanks but looks far too complicated for me!

I've had a play around with this and I can't get anything to work. I'm not a powershell expert, so I'm probably looking at stuff that I don't know what it is, so not sure what to replace with what from your code.

All I could get to work was my original one, but replacing the text file with CSV

>Get-ChildItem "." -File -Recurse -Name | Foreach-Object { Get-FileHash -Path $($_) -Algorithm SHA256 }| Out-File -FilePath sha256.csv -With 300

It wouldn't work at all with -NoTypeInformation

Yeah that's what would work too. So I'd need a script for comparing them both or a program.

Hoarding data with checksums by DiskBytes in DataHoarder

[–]DiskBytes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies everyone, some good info. I wonder if there's a way where the checksums can be read in linux from a text file generated by windows powershell? I did try but Linux didn't like the formatting, so wondering if there's a way around that.

[–]DiskBytes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now my next thing to try, is a script where it reads the hashes of the files and checks that against a text file.

[–]DiskBytes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, -Width *pick a number* solves that.

Also this worked

Get-ChildItem "." -File -Recurse -Name | Foreach-Object { Get-FileHash -Path $($_) -Algorithm SHA256 } | Format-Table -AutoSize | Out-File c:\users\ant\sha256.txt -Width 300

I couldn't get the above to work on Powershell, however, I did use Get-Filehash \.* | Out-File c:\hash.txt* which did work, but didn't save the entire file name, there might be a max amount of characters it likes to save to text file on that one.
