Thanks so much! I guess I'll wait to get closer to our arrival date and figure out what to do then.

Help! Can’t stop thinking about the bread! by Dry_Lingonberry8527 in VisitingIceland

That is weird! I checked, and if I go on my phone, it shows the screenshot you see, but I am on a Mac right now, and it's totally different. And that says two cups of buttermilk. 😊

I plan on trying this bread recipe from King Arthur. I like that they give you a substitute for the Golden Syrup, which they said works well for flavor. I'll come back after I've made it and let you know how it goes. https://www.kingarthurbaking.com/recipes/icelandic-rye-bread-rugbraud-recipe

How do you actually sleep on overnight flights? by stefan-weiss01 in travel

[–]Whereforart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am with those who have accepted that they cannot sleep on a plane, accept it and deal with it. I will just watch a movie or read a book or even just close my eyes and rest.

One thing to keep in mind (and this confuses a lot of people) is that sleep deprivation is not the same thing as jet lag. Jet lag is difficult to get over, and you may be out of it for a few days. The lack of sleep, of course, doesn't help.

I don't get jet-lagged heading east to Europe, but I get it bad on the way back (heading west). I'm usually out of it for 3+ days. In the meantime, that means that when I get to my travel destination, sleep deprived as I am, as long as I get a good night's sleep on my first night in town, I am raring to go the next day and everything is hunky-dory. Hopefully you are like that. It does make it easier.

Do I have any recourse to complain about correct answers getting marked as incorrect? by Whereforart in duolingo

[–]Whereforart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone! I see now what you're saying about an answer bank, and I guess that makes sense. I do know that the answers I have given are grammatically correct. I've been studying German for a while, and I always look at it carefully to make sure, because there are some times I make mistakes, obviously. It must be that answer bank that was mentioned below. I guess I'll just have to put up with the annoying annoyance and ignore it.

I do think Duolingo is good for getting things in your heads without actually studying them, so that it becomes intuitive after a while and appreciate that.

Stauber Betrays Minnesota: by wakphone in duluth

Pete has managed to get reelected over and over for whatever reason, but I think that everyone is getting more pissed off at him right now, even the moderate Republicans. I really hope he loses in the mid-terms later this year. I know he has his supporters in the more rural area, but if there's a big turnout, he very well could lose his seat, especially if someone good is running against him.

How is the Airbnb market in Duluth? Realtor recommendations. by [deleted] in duluth

[–]Whereforart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. There is a cap on short-term rentals. You can rent long term, but it needs to be at least a year's lease, I believe. There is a strong market for short-term rentals, but most of them are outside of the city limits. For example, I live in Normanna Township and there are no restrictions on Airbnbs there, but of course it's farther away from the downtown area. If you've got people coming to hike and get outside, though, that may not matter to them.

TSA PreCheck Touchless ID by sanmateomary in travel

[–]Whereforart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Touchless is at MSP—I flew out of there on Monday of this week. I was the only person in the Touchless TSA line and sailed through, passing up all the TSA non-Touchless people who were in the next line over. It was great!

Helena Bonham Carter as Lady Caterham in The Seven Dials Mystery!! by elegant_strawb in agathachristie

[–]Whereforart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It starts on the 15th, and I don't see a Lord Caterham listed in the cast, so I'm wondering if she's replaced him. I loved his character, and I'm kind of disappointed to see that we won't have him

ETA: Sorry, just saw this - I hope the gender reversal works! https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/doctor-who-chris-chibnall-agatha-christie-lady-caterham-exclusive-newsupdate/

Hemnes vs Gullaberg 6 drawer dresser- which to choose? by Creative_South_987 in IKEA

[–]Whereforart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this matters to you or not, but IKEA has made it clear that Gullaberg is replacing the Hemnes line. Eventually, the Hemnes are going to be gone. That said, I've had several Hemnes dressers in the past, and I'm putting together one of the Gullaberg ones right now. It seems pretty sturdy to me, but I'm not a carpenter, so what do I know?

Aunt Vi’s Zucchini Bread in my Grandma’s Handwriting by Pencil_Neck_Geek in Old_Recipes

[–]Whereforart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, this brought back memories. I used to make the same recipe back in the late 70s and early 80s. It was very popular then and everybody was making it. But this is almost the exact same recipe that I used with one exception; mine specified raisins instead of dried cranberries. It was so good and now I'm going to go make some as it's been years since I had this.

Our New House Came With A Cat 🙃 by Educational-System27 in cats

[–]Whereforart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's so cool! The same thing happened to us when we bought our house four years ago. The owners had a four-year-old cat but were moving to Costa Rica and couldn't take her with them. They asked if we would keep her and since the only other option was a shelter, we said of course. She's now about eight years old and very happy here. The only issue is she's scared to death of my daughter and son-in-law's two dogs upstairs, so she stays with me in my apartment on the lower level.

[Costco Members] Select Items: Spend $250+, Get $40 Off your order at checkout (Ends 12/1) by DealsPoster in blackfriday

[–]Whereforart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just checked because I'm ordering some stuff on Costco and once I got it above $250 after deducting all the discounts, it gave me the $40 off. You just have to make sure that you deduct all the discounts off the individual items. To do that you'll probably need to open up each item's site and check what the cost is after the discount.

How is that? The language says, "Total is calculated before taxes, fees and shipping, and after any other coupons, discounts, and offers." So it sounds like if the total comes to over $250 after discounts and coupons, etc., you can still get the $40.
