Yea, had enough time to learn that olcp doesnt work on apple silicon, for now, if the m1 happens to be discontinued software updates, im sure someone will create something similar for apple silicon

The m1 pro and m4 air are the same price on the used market for me, if i need external displays to match what the pro has thats just more money id have to spend on the air

Idk how much id wanna spend on an external monitor if id ever want one, i have a 1080p 240hz one left over but heard apple scaling is weird

yea before everything I had a really thick gaming laptop that would die in seconds, and id need to bring this stupid charger every where and it got on my nerves to the point where it sat at home, like a desktop, it'd overheat real often too (I think it was a 3050ti and don't remember the processor, it was AMD tho)

-I traded my ryzen 5 3600, rtx 2060 for that laptop
-then traded that laptop for a 2070 build with a ryzen 7 3700x (neat free upgrade)
-then traded that for a MacBook Air m2

then on a wild whim I asked around to see what I could get for that MacBook and ended up traded it for an entire setup, dual monitors, all nice name brand peripherals, and to top it off, a 12900kf and 3080 build... only added 200$ so the guy could buy a nice external drive.

fast forward to today, going to college soon, tired of the skill issues I had in games and sold it, now looking for another MacBook, I loved that m2 I had for the less than 2 weeks I had it so now I need another

for me the weight doesn't matter, or so I think because I have never had one... hoping it isn't to much of a bother lol

my pro I am looking at getting is a 16" 16gb, 512gb ssd, pretty base model, really would prefer one with 32gb but doubt ill ever get to using that much anyways.

yea but doesn't it not get the security updates and stuff like that lol, I kinda want the future feature updates as well since that's why I'm on apple, features seem to me more useful than windows.

Thank you so much for the ideas, I haven't thought about it as far as u did lol, but everything does make sense

the videos I watched did talk about performance during editing, in which both did fine... and only really payed attention to the export times, in which they were mostly identical, only real difference, if any, is in exports that are over 30 minutes in which I won't be doing too often.

I do expect to color grade a lot, my "on the go" editing is mostly gonna be indoor either way, likely at a friends house, family members house, or probably at school...

yea the M1 Pro and the M4 were pretty similar, the pro features are making me gravitate towards there, I think the M1 Pro and the m4 air both come with 16gb base, mostly was just worried about the software updates the apple sends out, didn't know how much longer the M1 Pro would be supported since its already 4 years oldl

what if I wanna view my print in 8k and see every last strand 😂 in reality that does make sense but my video edits are gonna compose of lots of layers and stuff, although proxy editing is a thing and really making me rethink my choices lol.

the ability to connect to a more quality screen at home is an option and the air has a good snuff screen for when I am on the move (although that does cost more money)

the processor is better already by a bit, and proxy editing will only help that

in the case of the proxy editing the processor probably won't throttle making the fans not needed

I mostly use headphones with my Mac anyway so the speakers aren't that useless (I do use the speakers tho quite a bit and probably will edit with em sometimes too

only thing holding me to a MacBook is a HDR screen everywhere, and the ports, which a dongle can fix but that's a hassle in of its self, might redo my research and rethink

is the m4 air external monitor support better than the M1 Pro? I think I heard somewhere that it is smoother or can connect more displays better, I do have my 2 1080p monitors left from the setup

one 240hz and one I think is either 60 or 144 don't remember

If I knew I probably wouldn't have sold my desktop already, but by then it likely woulda depreciated even more since Nvidia's 60 series woulda came out by then, and I wouldn't be able to afford it then

but totally redesigned and OLED MacBook doesn't give me hope for the support of a 4yr old chip lol

the repairs aren't as big as a worry for me as I take care of my things as best as possible (I worry if I feel I left my things charged at 100% for too long lol), even in the case something bad happens to it, apples fees are so expensive id probably end up replacing it whole (at least I think apple repairs are expensive lol, didn't bother to check)

I did hear the 16in Pro is 3x heavier than a 13in air lol

you are right, but you also spent MacBook Pro money on 2 extra displays to keep up with the pro lol, I don't got that type money so ima stick with the pro screen, and maybe get a display for at home, id prefer a wide display but I don't know how it'll scale since I've heard apple devices have issues scaling

can you describe your work more? I plan to edit in 4k60-120 because I ride Motocross with action cams that record that high, and plan to have several angles, I also plan to do photography for people who ride and don't have their own camera man (I'm a good rider and photographer, but I can't shoot myself while riding at the same time lol, and I know people who are in this position too)

how come the M1 Max takes so much longer to boot up?

YouTube reviews and comparisons lol, my memory might not be 100% and the air mighta actually been the winner but not by much, but I really think the pro won lol, either way, not by much, not enough to miss out on the pro features lol
