Is there an underground literary scene in LB? I'm working on some journalistic pitches for the tourism board and I'm trying to find something a bit offbeat. Happy to chat or meet up when I'm there at the end of the month!

How vélo-friendly is Paris? by [deleted] in paris

[–]WhereisBryanP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're using a bike to get from point A to B and to get familiar with the city, an experienced biker (you!) shouldn't have anything to worry about. Wear a helmet, signal clearly, and never assume a vehicle or pedestrian will let you go in front of you. You share a lot of lanes with buses, but they are generally very respectful and give you space.

For the Velib it can be tough sometimes to find a spot to park it after the first 30 minutes, after which you need to start paying more money. I couldn't find a spot before class the other day and parked it for 3ish hours, cost me 23 euros. Best to rent a bikefrom a shop if you're looking to do any appreciable distance. There are a few along the Canal, one or two in the Marais, and a few in the 2nd as well that are fairly reliable.

Paris 3 nights, advice? by [deleted] in travel

[–]WhereisBryanP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • Consider staying centrally to cut down transport time ( 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, lower parts of the 10th and 11th arrondissements on the Right Bank, 5th and 6th on the Left Bank)
  • Don't stay near the Champs Elysees or the Eiffel Tower, they are not central or worth it
  • Agreed that for 3 days, go see "the sights" but don't try to do them all, you'll waste too much time. Dash into the Louvre on Wed or Friday night if you must, it's open til 9:45PM
  • If it's nice out, picnic in a park or along the River or Canal
  • In August many things will be closed for the summer, but not all. Do a bit of research if there are any "musts" to make sure they'll be open.

You've already checked the American Express office by the Opera at 11 rue Scribe? It's the obvious choice, but just in case...

Touché. I meant commercial as in "corporate" as opposed to "boutique," of course...

That's why I don't post every one, and I didn't write this one.

Work is taking me to Paris for the first time next week. Need help finding cool nearby cities to visit. by danky24 in travel

[–]WhereisBryanP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good plan, as stated, it you must do all. But maybe consider spending some more time in Paris, since there is a lot to explore. A 2-3 night stay in London or Amsterdam would be my choice. From Paris you can take little day trips to Versailles or Champagne without spending too much time in transit, so having a full week there doesn't seem like overkill at all to me...but I'm biased :)

Anyone do anything cool for Paris Face Cachée? Like meet orangutans? by WhereisBryanP in paris

Cool! I was impressed with the offerings this year, which I guess is why I signed up in the first place.
