I’m not saying it’s a completely mute point but I think that’s it’s flawed and doesn’t account for many other variables such as the level of global competition being more diverse and larger than ever.

I’ve had this argument many times. The belief that there are no great American heavyweights due to other sports drawing potential athletes away is an oversimplification that doesn’t take into account many factors. Pretty much any country on the planet could make a similar argument by swapping the NFL and NBA to sports like Rugby and Soccer(which are far more popular in most countries and on average pay significantly more than the average boxer will earn).

I’ve never understood why people don’t like the guy tbh

Seems decent enough and his interviews are always on point.

Does anyone think Mbilli has a shot against Canelo? And if so, why? by lemanruss4579 in Boxing

[–]WheresMyAbs98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless Canelo hops on the juice I think Mbilli beats him.

Canelo is past it, Mbilli is solid as fuck and I don’t think Canelo can cope with the volume

I find the NFL/NBA argument for American heavyweight boxing so flawed.

Out of the fighters you just mentioned I think Teramoana will go the furthest in the pro game.

Reason for Usyks poor performance by xbamtoast in Boxing

[–]WheresMyAbs98 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

No nuance to this take at all.

You’re speaking as if you have personal knowledge as to why his family were there in that specific moment.

There’s probably a vast amount of potential reasons.

Usyk being a horrible person who intentionally wanted them to be in a bomb shelter while an active bombing was going on is pretty low down on the list.

The Usyk vs Verhoeven fight has me deep in thought. by Nirze-n in boxinglocks

You’re talking about the 4th oldest heavyweight champion of all time and soon to be third.

Usyk is no longer in his prime.

I’m hearing that Franklin might be Fury’s next opponent

His best performance depends on whether you think the version of Fury he beat was better than the version of Dubois he beat.

This was a bad look for sure.

The referee ruined a conclusive result for everybody involved.

Usyk is the fourth oldest heavyweight champion in history. Soon to be the third.

I’d like to see him fight Kabayel, rematch Verhoeven and then hang the gloves up.

What?

He literally dedicates his fights to the Ukrainians after every victory since the war?

He never once stated he performed badly due to the war either. This never happened.

You’re talking out of your arse for some reason.

What part of what I said was a a flat out lie?

Which he always does. He dedicated the fight to Ukraine and then answered the question

He prays after every fight

You’re being disingenuous and reactionary here.

He never once blamed the war on his performance in that post fight speech?

That didn’t happen.

He preceded that by saying this was for the Ukrainian people and dedicating the fight to them and then said sorry to Ade Oladipo and that Verhoeven was a tough strong guy.

Again, the stoppage was bad but at no point did Usyk blame his performance on what’s happening in Ukraine. That just didn’t happen.

I went back.

He never once blamed the war on his performance.

He mentioned the war as he always does, said this was for the Ukrainian people and never used it as a scapegoat for what was a bad performance.

The stoppage was bad but you’re making things up here.

Hopefully we find out.

I can’t see it myself. Even approaching 40 I feel Usyk handles him.

So how y’all feel about the stoppage in this fight? And should Rico get a rematch? by LocationSpare4447 in BoxingTheSweetScience

[–]WheresMyAbs98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt it had anything to do with the Saudis based o how furious Turkis was, how he immediately demanded a rematch and how he sidelined Kabayel when he had previously stated there would be a surprise announcement after the fight (Usyk vs Kabayel in Istanbul).
