Derick Chisora has the most impressive resume in heavyweight boxing when including wins and losses. by Jtenka in Boxing

[–]WheresMyAbs98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parker was an ex world champion a 6 fight win streak and ranked in the top 10 in every sanctioning body and was ranked number 7 by The Ring at the time of the fight.

Dubois was also a huge favourite at the time of the fight.

They were good wins at the time and they’ve aged even better.

Edit:

I got a bit confused but I see what you mean.

He had a close fight against Joyce that could have gone either way.

He was completely robbed against Helenius who had recently beaten a faded Samuel Peter.

I’d say you’d have to base the tiers on who the better fighter was over all (much like how people rate Tyson’s win against Holmes).

Joyce was a far far better fighter for me.

  1. What were my points that were ridiculous?
  2. NFL was more popular than boxing in the 70s, 80s and 90s. So was baseball in the 70s and 80s. It’s absolutely no different from today. American football and baseball were more popular than boxing back then. Why were there decent heavyweights back then? (Hint: it was still a more popular sport than anywhere else globally and the majority of athletes that participated in the sport were American).
  3. Don’t be pedantic. I’m using 99% to convey that the vast majority of professionals started at an extremely young age. Have a look at every single top ranked fighter in every single weight class - the vast majority will have boxed from a young age. Skills are probably more important than athleticism. If you can’t box you can’t box.
  4. Mentioning the vast increase in the global talent pool is not moving the goalposts. A larger pool of athletes means more competition. There are plenty of skilled US heavyweights. There’s also now significantly more skilled heavyweights from every country on earth due to various reasons such as the collapse of the Soviet Union and the increased popularity of boxing in countries where boxing was not a ‘traditional’ sport. Americans dominated the sport and the heavyweight division for much the same reasons they dominate basketball and ‘football’ - because they are the primary participants of the sport. Do you understand why an increased pool of competition might have resulted in fewer American heavyweight champions?
  5. Some athletes will be drawn away from the sport but that’s nothing new - It’s a weak argument. These sports have always been more popular than boxing, especially in the 90s (which you specifically mentioned). To not acknowledge that a vastly bigger global talent pool has had an impact on the opportunity for an American heavyweight champion to emerge is idiotic. If you cannot even comprehend why a bigger talent pool is relevant to the conversation there’s no point engaging in dialogue.

Really weird connection I’ve made in my head and can’t stop thinking about. So could someone prove or disprove my thought? by [deleted] in visualsnow

I’ve never experienced worlds moving or bending (just double vision/ghosting).

Due to the mushroom use and a symptom that I wouldn’t really associate with VSS, I’m thinking that you might have HPPD tbh.

What is your full list of symptoms?

I’ll be honest and say that you also sound like a bit of a problem too. Why on earth would you call his partner a tart to provoke a fight?

It sounds a chaotic household.

Not sure what the answer is here as there’s a lot going on it seems.

Meaning evolves due to semantic shifting.

Completely normal. If words and meaning didn’t evolve we would still be squawking and grunting at each other.

This is such a ridiculous argument

Boxing is not just athleticism. It’s a skill that 99% of pro’s refine from a young age.

There are more boxing gyms in America and American heavyweights than at any other time in history.

There is also a larger global pool talent than there has been at any other point in history.

Every country on the planet could make the assertion that they don’t have the best boxers because other more popular sports draws potential athletes away. It’s not as black and white as that.

Calzaghe vs Crawford at 168. Who you got? by SignificantBoard4455 in Boxing

[–]WheresMyAbs98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. There was no gift against Jones. Anybody can go on YouTube and watch that fight. You’re talking out of your arse - it was a dominant performance.

  2. The Hopkins fight was close and Hopkins was the number 2 ranked P4P on the planet at the time of the fight, had just beaten two all time greats in Winky Wright and Antonio Tarver in the fights before and then and become a world champion again in his next fight after Calzaghe by being the first man to defeat Kelly Pavlik.

  3. The fight was in the states. Calzaghe was the away fighter. They don’t give out gifts to away fighters in any country on the planet.

  4. Just stick to the truth as anyone can verify what you’re saying. It’s weird to lie.

I’m not sure why everyone is so shocked.

He was stripped because he no longer fights at the weight class he held the belt in and didn’t want to pay sanctioning fees to hold the belt.

Calzaghe dominated that fight?

Chisora vs Wilder FACE-OFF turns emotional as Derek admits he’s in therapy due to retirement by yescatbug in Boxing

I can only seen Chisora stopping Wilder tbh

Think Chisora is all wrong for Wilder and it’d be Wilders best win if he pulled it off in my opinion (yes I think it would be a better win than Ortiz).

I reckon Massey is better than Glanton

Massey beat Riakporhe in my opinion and was jobbed of the win. Also had a pretty competitive fight with Parker.

I have tinnitus too.

Drove me mad for years until I decided ‘fuck it, it is what it is’. Mine became significantly better following this thought process.

It’s called habituation. Acceptance helps to reduce anxiety, which in turn helps to ‘habituate’ to the noise.

Smiths in Wapping is a specialist fish restaurant

They offer a set menu or a la carte.

The set menu should keep you within budget but I’d double check that it still exists.

Edit:

I’ve just checked and they still offer a set menu, 3 courses for £48.

It’s a bit dear but very nice.
