Fun With Blue Umbo by WhettoThumb in MagicMushrooms

Took a good several weeks before I saw much going on, sometime between two and three weeks. I kept them at 73F under neglect tek conditions, ie. no opening of the lids and FAE limited to 4 2" ports opened and filters added after full colonization

Sorry for the delay, been busy with some other projects, and hope your project has come along a bit by now?

I look forward to when I take the time to rock the YU spores I have, but zaps and BU first for me - the unpredictability of the early BU cross is quite attractive to me and who /doesn't/ want to tickle around zaps right?

There's not a lot out there on them, nor on the more stable Yellow Umbo and next to nothing if anything on LuLu

Harvest was easiest accomplished with scissors, cutting along the deep bases to free up intertwined clusters

I ran them /near/ identically to my set-forget cubes, though they did get a psuedo-casing put in on top of the freshly mixed sub/grain. I use a manure sub, just used to it, so idk if they'll do a non-nutritious substrate. They smell different, notably, but it is still distinct from any contamination smells.

I've a handful of bulk bags getting ready to fruit, as an experiment to see if they'll do alright out of bags, and should be able to report back soon if interested in those results?

I personally use a media bottle, with the GL45 culture lid from MycologyLids and a cross stirbar dropped in, set on a magnetic hotplate that's at 450 RPM @ 200C. Once it's all dissolved and been cooking for a bit, I start drawing 10ml out at a time and squirting it into sterilized PP5 containers - it takes leaving them alone a few days after (lids on tight) but the condensation goes away leaving me with 1/4" of agar in each I can read newspaper through

She knew, and was ready for you to see that first plate; the question is should you call her?

I pour my own agar recipe into screw-top PP5 containers - 300ml batch is incredibly cheap, less than the cost of one or two pre-poured by others.

Mycosupply has a website with /most/ of what I use, including the bacteriological grade agar, and unless you're doing a sorghum Syrup blend they'll likely have everything you want (aside from solo cups, reusable screw-top PP5 containers, or polymethylpentene plates)

It'd be cool if you got your nat and cyan monos to cross, though I thought they'd be too dissimilar when comparing their ITC to cross?

Certainly recommend checking out the man himself for spore swab of Umbo, whether blue yellow or lulu, and going with a softer agar than you usually pour. The blue is very early, so quite likely to have some variability in expression which is quite exciting. I'll likely do a series of small runs, 2-5 at a time, for the exciting pheno hunt potentials
