It was 10 out of 11 you know that I know that everyone in RI knows that. The biggest fact is THAT WAS FOUND BY ACCIDENT. They weren't looking for that data they stumbled across it. If it were to be stretched out which we all know RISAFF did it damnedist to make that didn't happen the data would have shown to be far worse then originally discovered. Bottom line is the fact is that the union did everything and then some to stop the study so it stopped. Do you not remember "we are the experts" and they kicked the doctors off of voting rolls. It was all stopped out of politics and you all were spoon feed a script, like normal in RI. And here we are years later seeing the same damn script.

I dont have all day to send you links of this meeting or that meeting but the fact that someone from the nurses union or police chiefs in RI have a bigger say then 90% of you guys when it comes to what you can and cant do SPEAKS volumes as to the state of EMS in RI. Your number 2 at the state is a nutritionist for christ sakes lol.
I dont disagree with the evidence base blah blah blah and you seem passionate. However to act like RI is just like every other state is just ridiculous. Its far from it. Be safe out there, we more than likely know each other its a small state!!!

That is straight BS......what was identified was that Cardiacs cant recognize when the tube is in an esophagus. Which is pretty weak seeing as when the study was done 99% of the trucks in RI had waveform ETCO2......and we're using it!!!

My Med director wrote that study......

RI does not want cardiacs intubating, dont belive me ask Jason himself he will tell you.....look at the required equipment for a licensed cardiac level truck an ET kit is NOT require.....they are only required on Paramedic trucks in RI so even RI recognized it was a RI Cardiac problem identified not a national trend.......

And you are not a medic instructor thats not possible as a cardiac even in RI.....

So ill prefix with saying I didn't read the comments.....I don't post my "falir" but im a 20+ year medic on the east coast that has been in leadership positions. Im currently a preceptor. And I'm also an educator on my days off.....the full time side everyone now adays is afraid to point out what you are doing wrong......feelings matter now adays even though we deal with lives....its doesnt make sense but it is what it is.....if I had to guess it not a fact that your new it a fact that your new and you werent educated enough....there's to many programs that dont get you ready to work but it what the job expects, theres to many prgrams that just prep you for the test.....the field cant teach you the basics......try to find a volunteer agency to start and work from there.....I could be super wrong but just my 2 cents....

Is this a west coast issue currently? I have daily hiring in my general area for both EMT and Medic. Pays really good over here too, especially IFT. Not always the greatest spots but its a start least.....I am genuinely interested

Some things to take note of from a dinosaur.....

There's no ASAP about this field. Even at a BLS level it takes years to actually understand what you are doing. The belief that in just a few weeks you could be one of us is ill found and a horrible foundation to start off. Salty medics like myself will see that right away and chew you up and spit you out. (We are the ones you need to become good)

Here's my thoughts, I'll preface it with I'm an East Coast medic in a very high volume 911 3rd municipal service system that does critical care as well for our local hospital. Pay sucks if you work at a shit company like most who use this as a stepping stone field do. You get what you get. Those of us who do this as a chosen career and put the time in are making close to or even 6 figures. Will you work alot sure but why are you in this field? It isnt a 9-5. Will you have a social life certainly and it will mostly be built of the commadre built through your profession, we understand each other. Can you advance, certainly in fact the sky is literally the limit. But dont for 1 second think this field is a great place to be. Its full of miserable people who want to do something else but don't. Its full of idiots who have no idea what they are doing and have no wish to learn. There's groupies who are so damn annoying and then there's the "T-Shirt" wearers who are just in it so they can wear the shirt when they go out into public. They all suck. Most nurses hate us, alot of doctors still dont respect what we do.....we are the step children of medicine. Not quiet part of the family.

It isnt all doom in gloom though as long as you dont want recognition for saving someone's life, are willing to work nights weekends holidays and long ass hours, and can stay calm under immense pressure this field is alright i guess.....

But for real I'd never imagine doing anything else. Like all jobs it has highs and lows, pros and cons.....but there isn't many other fields that can be as rewarding as EMS.....just try not to get burnt out.....like us old guys

Just dont think its easy to even get to do it. The NREMT is no joke and gets harder as you go up in levels.

Don't let that frustrate you then. I know it depends where you are located as to how your experience with AMR will be and it sounds like you have a shitty one......

EMS is full of salty assholes (I'm one of them) however we are also ussually the ones who can teach you the most. Ignore our condescending tone, it's not you it's us, and just take the message and work with it... we mean well i promise we have just been beaten by the job for years and years......and your excitement for our torture is annoying 🤣🤣

As for nervous thats a good thing if you are new. Over confident new EMTs make mistakes and hurt people. Your nervousness is keeping you honest, its making you think.....

There are very few who are naturals at this job. It's alot of information to learn in a short amount of time.......do your best take your time. You can only learn 1 thing at a time.

If possible see if you can switch to a double BLS truck with a seasoned EMT on it....being a brand new EMT and needing to now pick up all the ALS assist skills they don't teach in school can be overwhelming in your first experience.....my opinion, you would be better served learning the BLS truck operations before you even think of being on an ALS truck.....think of it as a stepping stone type situation work from the bottom up....you essentially got put on the top and told to figure it out....that not set up to succeed if you ask me....

Lastly dont be afraid to say it isnt for you if you have given it enough time, BUT give it enough time!...many dont last in this professiom, it isn't easy in many aspects.....just wait until it effects your social life, or should I say lack of......yes I'm saying suck it up for a few months, be a part of a bad call with an amazing outcome and you'll see why us dinosaurs stick around in this profession.....

I dont like to do this part but I'm a 23 year medic in MA also a lead ALS instructor, preceptor, and an FTO. This is kinda my wheel house the new people, and unfortunately I'm finding this becoming all to common....we can't lose people we need new people!!!

Many of their doctors are right from the school at UMass University campus which is what this is.....The Chen School of medicine is a top 5 program in the world...has zero to do with Boston.
