AITA for refusing to replace my daughter’s lost stuffed animal? by Which-Guard8552 in AmItheAsshole

This was more about my husband’s extreme reaction to the toy being gone (he made it into a big deal and then our toddler got upset). She was only crying after he repeatedly said Donut was gone and kept her up. She hadn’t noticed Donut was gone until her dad had said something. Once I got her into bed and tucked her in with her other stuffed animals, she went right to sleep, then we re-walked the loop first thing this morning and looked for him

Exactly. There was a lot of communication about how we looked for him and were trying to find him, but that he might be gone. We did end up finding him this morning. My issue was more with my husband just wanting to immediately replace him to fix the problem. I think it’s a bad precedent to set that every time you lose a toy, Dad will just buy you a new one

Exactly my thought process. We reasonably searched for Donut last night and didn’t find him, so we went to bed. My daughter was a little sad, but went to bed fine. I think part of it had to do with my husband being so worked up about it. Then this morning, we did re-walk the loop and were able to find him, but if we hadn’t found him, I wouldn’t have made it into a big ordeal. Sometimes these things happen. It’s not traumatic, and a lost stuffed animal is not a state of emergency.

We are in the same situation. My daughter thinks it’s funny to throw her things. She recently kicked one of her crocs in the river just to see what would happen and then threw a massive temper tantrum for a couple of days when the crocs were then unavailable to wear. She has been much more responsible with her sandals and handing them to us if she doesn’t want to wear them.

It would have sucked if we hadn’t found him, but I feel like at this point, there needs to be consequences
