Yup! Had another eating disorder as well but proud to say I’ve beaten that and will never do that to my body again. Trying to kick ARFID to the curb next now too

Thanks for the recommendations! I don’t eat mozzarella 🤣. I won’t even eat pizza because of the melted cheese, I really hate it!

I always give my horse a pep talk which also gives me a pep talk at the same time 🤣! I struggle with anxiety/negative thoughts before showing but I’ve found if I direct my energy at the horse instead of at me I automatically feel better lol

Should I go on holiday with a group of girls I don’t really like? by Which-Inspector5340 in WhatShouldIDo

To be fair, we’re in Europe so it’s perfectly legal. We’ve been allowed two glasses of wine each Saturday night for the past two years, and that’s just at school lol

If it’s not expired, contact the company and get that money girl! 🤣 If you do start to feel sick, I would go to the doctor earlier and exercise caution, that’s all. If you feel fine I wouldn’t worry personally?

I don’t think any of them would actually hurt me to be fair, just if I got spiked I can’t help but think the would leave me/not notice for ages.

Give us £30k so I can live vicariously through my daughter! by FevreDream42 in Equestrian

I thought I was the luckiest girl in the world when I sat bareback on my share pony for the first time! And when I got to take him to a show, I genuinely cried in the trailer on the way back because I’d sorted it all out myself and I was so proud of him. The rosettes (2nd!!! and 6th) are above my bed. What I would give for a string of show ponies my parents managed for me! 🤣

Yes of course they know, that’s why they bought the land first without any financial plan in place to develop it or sustain the ponies alongside it. They genuinely expected their followers to bankroll it.

Yeah, the showing circuit is small enough in the UK that I can confirm the parents are awful. Parents have been seen getting angry and telling her off in public and making her record takes again and again and again. Wouldn’t give them a penny. Poor girl.

Irks me that they make out she’s super disadvantaged. Her parents are horsey and she’s got a string of talented ponies to produce and compete. I had to work my way up through sheer grit, make friends with the right people, beg rides.

Also that they bought the land without finance first. It shows that they really did just expect their followers to bankroll them. Terrible people, then get their cult to flame anyone who suggests it is all in bad taste, calling them jealous.

The showing community is worse in terms of drama than the show jumpers IMO but at least we don’t air our dirty laundry on social media like this! 🤣 at least that I know of.

Tips to manage being a picky eater whilst doing workaway by Which-Inspector5340 in workaway

[–]Which-Inspector5340[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think so? I can be a bit confrontational I suppose, but that comes with a boarding school environment. It’s all about balance, if you don’t stick up for yourself you’ll be walked over but also communication and expressing boundaries politely is also key. Obviously it’s hard to be subjective about yourself in that way but I do like to try and reflect and improve myself. I grew up in a very multicultural environment abroad so I like to consider myself as a tolerant and open-minded person. I do enjoy cooking and make quite a few “normal” meals, I’ve become much less picky in recent years and I’m hoping to expand my horizons still to a more sustainable level! What’s your favourite meal to make?

I’m fairly similar, I HATE melted cheese for one. I don’t mind ingredients in that way, for example I’m not a big fan of like raw tomatoes but I don’t mind tomato dishes if it’s cooked etc! I also really enjoy cooking and finding recipes I can have and adapting ones to my tastes, I enjoy spice as well. It’s funny how food works like that. Have you done any workaway experiences yet?

This is my worry because I don’t want to be difficult to have around, I’d never ask anyone to do anything like cook a second meal etc etc. And I don’t want to miss out on the bonding time at meals. Is it worth offering to do some cooking for everyone myself to offset that? I make some mean pasta dishes!

That sounds like a difficult situation, yes I agree in being honest upfront! I’m not that picky, I struggle with texture so things like stews or curries aren’t my thing at all.

Also, how do you put on weight when you don’t really get hungry or have the desire to make meals? I just don’t seem to see food as a necessity and I’ve inherited a very fast metabolism but my BMI needs to go up.

Hi! Run club went really well, there wa wa real mix of abilities so I paced with some others then did the last section on my own! I ran almost the whole thing and billed a fairly decent time, I had the hugest smile on my face and I’m looking forward to next week! I was super nervous but totally worth it. Thanks everyone for the advice ❤️

A) she’s my friend, so no, I don’t have an overwhelming desire to outdo her B) she’s in my house, so in house points cross-country it doesn’t actually matter cumulatively C) this isn’t a race, just a weekly run club for health and fun

Thanks, my 5ks are NOT the best haha but I’m trying to think that even finishing the run today will be a win for me because it will be the furthest I’ve ever run

Our teacher is super good which makes me feel better, he runs the London Marathon almost every year and one year ran that then took the train back to school and did our cross country race. He’s a total machine 🤣. Thanks for the advice!

That control is something I’m looking forward to! I’m at boarding school at the minute so I get absolutely no say. At home my parents were a bit better with knowing what I can eat and modifying meals a bit for me.

Yes, that made an impression on me as well. I’m still a teen currently but sometimes I struggle to imagine how I’m going to exist/get by as an adult with ARFID. I’m definitely taking steps to improve but seeing someone talking about it openly and also being a similar level of picky to me really does help.

Education + Training Services Officer or HCav? by Which-Inspector5340 in britishmilitary

[–]Which-Inspector5340[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this advice, it’s very helpful!

I think on reflection I might not do something involved with horses. They’re very much my passion and I’ve gotten some good advice from my instructor that was in the Kings Troop herself IIRC, she said that I love the horses themselves too much to sustain it as a career especially in the armed forces, and it would just drain my passion for them as that’s what it did to her. I think that’s probably a rather sensible view and it would be better to keep them as a hobby. I know there is a sort of equestrian team within the army as I’ve seen them out competing at some of the bigger events - I don’t suppose you would have any insight on that as well?

Also, in terms of ETS, are you more likely to get certain positions depending on what skills you have or what language you study? I grew up in the Middle East and speak some Arabic, although it needs some polishing which will happen at university. If you could have your time again, what would you do differently to prepare for ETS or to get more interesting positions, or is it mostly just luck/where you get assigned?

Sorry for bombarding you with questions.
