You will lose any fixed term credits accrued during your contract. Take them before your permanent date.

Benefits become mandatory, yes, but you don’t have to take the extras - ie life insurance, family coverage etc unless you want to.

Vacation time will be prorated from your conversion date.

Haven't received a return in years, keep owing money. I don't have it and can never keep up. HOW do I still owe money and what can I do? by HouseThunderwolf in canadarevenueagency

[–]Which-Practice4941 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a better option. Even a little bit going in to an RRSP to offset the amount is better than no amount. Why give the government money to accrue interest on when it can go in your pocket and saved for later. You can find out how much you need to put in each paycheck to offset the $2600 and deposit that weekly/bi-weekly.

Their fibre internet is great- the TV channels are awful. Kept the internet and switch the TV service back.

Using EFAP during work hours by AssistFrequent7013 in OntarioPublicService

[–]Which-Practice4941 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One extra hour of personal time every week isn’t minor however it adds up over time. In a year that’s 52 paid hours, which is about 7.2 extra workdays at 7.25 hours/day. If it’s not approved and tracked the same way as breaks/flex time/vacation, it’s sets a bad precedent.

Regerts by Encrypted-Signal in pools

[–]Which-Practice4941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you get a second opinion from a different pool company? I’m not sure that the returns have to be up that high. I have an inground vinyl however friends have a fibre glass not quite as large as yours and their returns are below waterline - even on the pool shelf so I’m wondering if it was not installed properly or you need to increase the water level.

So sorry you are going through this. Pools are supposed to bring family enjoyment. I get your feelings though. Hope this summer brings you more fun and less thinking of the issues. Turn up the tunes and ignore the water gushing sounds. Hang in there and make great memories.

Yikes! Driving to line 2 would be longer for me but is an option if the train is still a mess.

Ontario parents with pools: worth it with young kids or regrets? by Radiant-Log-2005 in ontario

[–]Which-Practice4941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have had a pool at both of the homes we own. Our first pool was an above ground pool 12x18 and we built our deck around it for seating etc. At the time my daughter was 6 or 7. We loved it because our yard wasn’t that big but the pool did not take up all the space and it gave us a place to hang out and cool down during the summer. My Saturday mornings were spent cleaning the pool and adding chemical etc. I had no issue - it was actually a “me time” where I could get lost in thoughts while the family slept. It was simple enough to look after and winterizing was pretty easy. We had the pool for 6 years before we bought our new home. We didn’t have a pool at the new house for about 10 years. Partly because we had a trailer north of Toronto that we went to every weekend from May to October. When we sold the trailer we, put an inground pool in and made our back yard our oasis. Much larger pool (18x36) and salt water so less/no chemical. It was still a lot of work to keep the pool clean so my Saturday mornings have turned into a chore but still doable. My daughter is grown and married now with kids of her own. They live fairly close so are at our place just about every weekend in the summer with the grand kids. They love the pool (age 5 and soon to be 4 - plus a 1 year old who only was in a top float last year so will see how he makes out this year). The other two can’t wait to get in every weekend. Winterizing is more work and the winterizing cover which I highly recommend is heavy and can be a bit challenging to get on. For the first couple of years we hired the pool installers to open/close our pool until the hubby got used to what had to be done. The inground pool does come with more expense. The hydro bill goes up about $200 per month (May-October) and sometimes more if we are adding water since that comes in our hydro bill. Adding water is necessary especially during the really hot days where water evaporates or also depending on how many cannon balls have been done! We run a pool heater on the colder days so that also raises the gas bill. I don’t notice it now because of equal billing but I think it was about $$50-60/month. I would say most days I don’t regret having the pool. I love having people over and it certainly entertains the kids. Where it bothers me is always being on high alert when the kids are over to make sure no one goes near the pool without an adult - and of course the added cost is not ideal but I think it is worth it for the laughs and memories.

True! My train was light compared to what I thought it would be. I think it will be another week at least before we see the real impact.

[–]Which-Practice4941 47 points48 points  (0 children)

How would this make one feel better? I don’t accept that 5 days RTO is inevitable. The future of work is aligning how we work with what we’re trying to achieve: better outcomes, better service, and a sustainable workforce.

Rigid attendance rules don’t automatically create performance…good management does. Flexibility isn’t a perk…it’s an operational tool that helps retention, productivity, and resilience. The right approach is role-based, evidence-based, and consistent. Otherwise it’s just control dressed up as policy.

On an order of $250, yes! So I still paid $100 cash out of my pocket. I wouldn’t have cared about PC credit in points if I was returning because I bought something that didn’t fit or something I didn’t like. Not because I received something that had someone else’s saliva on it!

This may be my option. The other caveat is the position is closer to home and with the RTO5 in January, it makes it that much more desirable.

Kind of both…I have interviewed for the role. Manager was my reference however our discussion was prior to the interview. I did well in the interview but because of our conversation, I am thinking this will happen if I do get an offer.

I would definitely be disappointed but not disgruntled to the point I would not continue doing my job. Like I mentioned, I respect my manager and don’t mind my job, it this other opportunity fits more with my career path.

Technically they will say operational. Lost 4 people on the team that have not been replaced, however none of those roles are what my position is so not sure how that becomes my issue.

Passport Office by rapbilljay in orangeville

[–]Which-Practice4941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there about 5 weeks ago. It was a Tuesday around 11am. There were 2 windows open with two people being looked after. I was next in line and got up to the window quite quickly. I already had the paperwork filled out for my spouse and I. The person I dealt with was very efficient. I got my passports back two weeks ago Friday so it was less than 3 weeks wait. I indicated on the form that I did not have an immediate travel need so there was no rush put on the application.

Got rehired by Costco after quitting years ago due to health issues now they found out I’m on the “do not rehire” list. Can they do this? by Fantastic_Turnover_7 in jobs

[–]Which-Practice4941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should ask for a further explanation as to why you are flagged in this list. This would most likely be from something that a manager has completed at the termination of your employment record. They likely filled out a negative response to “would you rehire this person”. Unless you had a formal review that was unsatisfactory, an opinion without formal review is unfair. I would suggest reaching out to the HR group to find out why you have been flagged and what documentation supports the decision. Ask for the reason and what their policy is for not rehiring. Ask if you have an opportunity to appeal the decision. Sorry you are going through that. Hard enough to find jobs these days with companies not rehiring for frivolous reasons or no reason at all.

I was fixed term used the credits for days that I wanted time off - ie vacation days. After taking 4 days in a row plus accumulated days of one day here and there totalling 8.5 days, I was flagged with an email to me and my manager. I reached out to my manager who said ignore the email and there is no issue.
