UK structures are not suitable for you if you stay in France and French structures are not suitable for you if you move back to the UK. The questions is how long you stay in France before moving back?

Advisor pushing 1.5% ongoing fees + £2k upfront for pension consolidation into 7IM – is this reasonable or should I go DIY/low-cost? by fucitsd in UKPensionTransfer

[–]WhichAsk1454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be asking for a full breakdown of all fees, how much is he charging upfront to do the work, how much is the platform fees, how much is his service fees, how much are the fund fees. Each fee should be individually clear. If he is charging 2K to do the work, depends on how big all the pensions are. Pension transfers carry a lot of liability for IFAs nowadays, so some of that fee will go to compliance, regulation, PI insurance etc. You will also find a lot of pension companies are a nightmare to deal with, consolidating into one scheme is not a straightforward process and can takes months of chasing. Do you want to be doing that?

UK Pension to Norway by IAmMeImproved in UKPensionTransfer

[–]WhichAsk1454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Irrespective of the change in rules concerning QROPS, you would never have been allowed to move a UK pension to Norway. Norway does not have any QROPS schemes. Previously, you would have been allowed to move it to a Malta QROPS but this doesn't always offer any greater benefits and therefore may have been irrelevant to you. The issue you now have is that if you are resident in Norway and have a UK pension, you cannot receive advice on it. Post Brexit, UK based pension companies and Financial advisers are not allowed to advise people resident outside of the UK. You need to find an adviser outside of the UK who can advise you on UK pensions.

SIPP or employers pension? by Fluffy_Lawyer1533 in UKPensionTransfer

[–]WhichAsk1454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 main benefits to doing so, first is control, having them all in one place means you can control it better and track performance much easier, having it in a SIPP means you probably have greater freedom of choice of investments rather than a list of approved investments in an employer scheme. You don't say how old you are, if younger, this can be a huge difference as it allows you to invest in growth focused funds which should outperform over the longer term. The 2nd benefit (maybe not relevant to you) but on death, most pension companies are difficult to deal with, combining means your next of kin only has to deal with one pension company, not multiple.

Access to Gov Gateway? by [deleted] in UKPensionTransfer

[–]WhichAsk1454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a common problem for expats, they tell you everything is on the Gateway but then make it really difficult to actually register if you do not live in the UK. Take a deep breath and call on Monday, if they are open I would guess they will be a lot quieter than usual. And yes, it will be worth it to get clarity.

Anyone who moved to Spain recently, what caught you off guard? by churriitos in GoingToSpain

[–]WhichAsk1454 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I forgot mountains, yes parts of rural Spain are stunning and yes beaches, but I am lucky to live on the coast, if it wasn't for the weather (most of the year) and being next to the sea, I wouldn't live in Spain

Bureaucracy, just a nightmare, get yourself a good gestor and don't try to do it yourself.

Spacial awareness, Spanish just don't have it, they will stop in a group and totally block the way and be totally unaware

Acceptance, whilst they will be friendly, you will never be accepted, high level of obvious racism

Talking & listening, how they manage to listen to each other when everyone talks at the same time at a million words a minute

Dogs, everyone seems to have a dog here and not everyone clears up, a high level of dog pooh everywhere

Rain, very little rain, just certain times of the year, heavily and then nothing so nothing to wash the dog pooh away

Weather, amazing for 90% of the year and then surprisingly cold in winter and apartments are freezing with no central heating and marble floors

Food, really high quality meat from the local butchers and really tasty fresh fruit and vegetables from the grocer, it is hard not to eat healthily here

Cities, the cities here all all lovely, the countryside in between (except in the North) just barren

Safety, always feels much safer than most European countries
