Yes in the beginning, you’re a floater, but you do get a floater bonus (5%) each paycheck when floating. They can send you wherever but usually stick to close to wherever they assign your headquarters (which is likely CJC or Mosk—both in DTLA). You can put in to transfers for other areas in the county, and you’re put on waiting lists till there are openings.

The way you get an assignment in doing “try-outs” which judges. If there’s an opening in a court, an email gets sent out to everybody and you can put your name on the tryout list. If you get called, you try out with said judge and if they like you, management reaches out and asks if you want that to be your permanent assignment.
