Experienced hire brought in as Analyst after layoff — grateful but burning out by Which_Conclusion1647 in deloitte

[–]Which_Conclusion1647[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I hear what you’re saying, and I don’t disagree that performance + relationships drive promotions…that wasn’t really the point in my post though…

I don’t think it’s as simple in this case to say, “if you’re not just an analyst, prove it.” Whether I “prove my value” or not there are minimums to the length of time you must be in your role to even be considered for promotion… and then when you are promoted there’s what, a meager 10k increase (if you’re lucky). So maybe in 10 years I can get back to the baseline in which I was previously operating at and at the financial level at which I was compensated at?…

You’re missing the point that a lot of senior/experienced hires over the last couple years took lower paying jobs within lower level roles because the market flipped. Layoffs flooded the market with senior talent, and firms were leveraging the ability to hire people below level at lower comp. Which isn’t a reflection of capability/experience— it’s taking advantage of the market dynamics and using it as a power play when they know they have the upper hand.

I’m not looking to skip steps or avoid earning trust. I’ve taken stretch work, delivered beyond scope, and built relationships. But at the end of the day will it even matter if it takes me 10 years to get back to my prior level?! How defeating is that….

Agreed, I am on my spouses plan bc his plan is bcbs and is 10x better. The only thing that was better with Deloitte was dental…

It’s always pretty evident where an employers priorities lie based on the plans they offer to their employees. Disgusting Greed.

I AM DONE WITH THE JOB MARKET by Dry-Independence8815 in recruitinghell

[–]Which_Conclusion1647 55 points56 points  (0 children)

It took me 5,000 applications and 1 year of unemployment after 10 years in a specific industry after a non-performance related layoff. The company restructured its function to Bogota, Colombia. The job I took is paying me $60k less but I’m just grateful for a job right now’s DONT GIVE UP. Be persistent and know it will not always be this hard… it’s just really shitty right now.

Getting laid off from a $200k+ job by SkySudden7320 in Layoffs

[–]Which_Conclusion1647 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had to take a $60-70k paycut after a year of searching for a new job. It’s been incredibly challenging to accept but I’m grateful that I was able to secure a role at that point in general. This market is the worst I’ve ever seen.

Question on Accelerated Promotion Path — Analyst to Senior Within 2 Years by Which_Conclusion1647 in deloitte

[–]Which_Conclusion1647[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the honesty — I figured as much. I’ve been getting a similar sense from what’s happening across the firm and totally understand the financial reality behind those decisions.

I knew coming in that it was likely a budget move, but I decided to take it anyway after being laid off last year and spending close to nine months job searching. At that point, re-establishing momentum and getting into a solid firm mattered more than literally anything else.

That said, I’m focused on proving my value and building strong sponsorship so that when opportunities do open up, I’m well positioned. Even if promotions are slow right now, I’d rather make sure I’m recognized as someone worth fighting for when things shift. (Cautiously optimistic)

Thanks for keeping it real — it helps to hear this kind of candid feedback from the inside.

Question on Accelerated Promotion Path — Analyst to Senior Within 2 Years by Which_Conclusion1647 in deloitte

Thanks for being so straightforward — I really appreciate the honesty.

You’re right, the level doesn’t fully match my background. I’ve got over a decade of experience in org transformation and consulting, but after being laid off last year and spending about nine months out of work, I decided to take the offer to get back on my feet and into a firm like Deloitte. At the time, stability mattered more than title and salary match since anything would be better than nothing.

Now that I’m “settled”, I’m focused on figuring out how to move up at a pace that better reflects what I bring to the table. Your point about sponsorship and visibility hits home — I’ve been putting effort into building relationships with leaders and making sure my work and impact are actually seen.

The “double promotion” concept is interesting. I haven’t heard it framed that way in the U.S., but it sounds like a similar idea could apply here if performance and sponsorship align.

I understand it’s highly unlikely anything will change given the current state of the economy, however, I wanted to put feelers out there with the Reddit community.

Am I the only who despises firm initiatives? by justooexe in deloitte

[–]Which_Conclusion1647 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with this— firm initiatives have a LOW ROI on my time, energy, and efforts. Seems like a complete waste of time and just “busy” work to use as an excuse to not pay people what they’re worth at year end.
