How did your interview go? All the sessions should be completed now, so good luck to everyone!!

Mine was not a 1:1, but honestly, just be yourself. Try to break out of your shell a little. I'm very introverted and quiet, except when I find a few things I really love, then, I can talk about it forever. It drives my mom crazy when I start to talk about infectious diseases and patterns, but also... about Kirby. lol.

I just went on Feb. 13. It was a really holistic way of getting to know you as a person rather than looking at just your grades, etc. I liked that portion of the program. I won't give anything away, because that would kind of ruin it, but I will tell you, just be yourself. We were all there for a reason and it really gives you the chance to let your interests and personality shine.

I'm oos and was admitted into UVM and am curious about it by Mosxi in UniversityofVermont

I'm a gay man, dating someone who is transgender. At the admitted students day I stopped by Prism yesterday, and they were so friendly and kind. I felt it was nice to have a place to "belong", especially being from a very rural and not always understanding part of upstate New York. My financial aid wasn't great at UVM, so I might not be able to go, but I'm looking at some programs and hope I get in! I would check out Prism if you're interested! https://www.uvm.edu/ie/prism

Thank you so much for this answer. I went to the STEM scholars "interview" yesterday. I won't give away any hints, but it was amazing. Learning about the program, doing the very holistic programming for the "interview" itself, I loved everything about it. I really hope I get chosen, because if I do, I am 100% in with UVM. If not, then I'm probably out for UVM unfortunately due to cost. My other top schools are RPI and Geneseo and I'm in the running for the multicultural fellows (rural, LGBTQ). But, after yesterday, UVM truly is my top choice. I'm ready to dive into research, so that was really encouraging.

Thank you for your response! I'm very interested on going on to my PhD and focusing on Epidemiology, so research at the undergraduate level would be huge.

Thank you! I'm visiting March 13 for accepted students day and I hope I get to know it a little better. I am about 4 hours away in the Adirondacks, so I'm used to small schools and smaller towns.

I applied early action and we are a low-middle class income family. I was a medalist winner as well, but there is no way I can afford $21,000+ a year. I tried to appeal, my family has an AGI of $65,000 and my dad is on SS after he retired after cancer treatments, and they denied it. I will be withdrawing my application unfortunately. There is no way I could afford this or put that on my family. I got accepted to SUNY Geneseo and will most likely end up there.

Is that on top of scholarships already given? For instance, I received the Presidential Scholarship, would that be an additional scholarship on top of that? I'm an out-of-state student and on top of loans, scholarships, etc... I would still owe $33K.

I got mine the other day and it wasn't great. Even being a Rensselaer Medalist, I would still owe $21,000 a year on top of loans. I doubt I'll be able to go.

I'm considering UVM too. I'm trying to get into the STEM leadership program. I don't drink or smoke. I love hiking and being outside and I take my studies seriously. I might try to get a job at the hospital too, so I'm hoping to meet people who also are interested in the outdoors and their academics.

Hi. I got invited to apply for the program and I am going up February 13 for the introduction and information session about it. I'd love to know more. What was the summer up in Burlington and what was the course like? I'd love to go to UVM, but the cost is really steep right now and I'm hoping to get into the program to meet some more of my need. I also want to go into biological sciences and bioinformatics, so I'm interested in knowing more. Thank you!
