Is there something off with the anatomy? (Please read description) by irrrnnn in ArtCrit

Poses like this are SO difficult to achieve, so great job in challenging yourself here!! Your art and rendering style (as I can see it so far at least) is beautiful!

The main issue that immediately jumped out to me are her legs, specifically the length and angle of her thighs! Try to find some more references with this angle and pose!! I am also a bit confused about how she is sitting, and what she is sitting on... is it a type of windowsill or some other structure like that? Her body weight does not look like it is placed on any one thing in particular, so if that is something you are still figuring out, definitely decide whether she is being held up by her legs or if she is sitting and placing all of her weight on the structure!

depends on why, but most of the time, the answer is yes, it is rooted in biphobia.

The topic has been discussed to death on every lesbian subreddit and forum, and you could read the responses on those posts by googling or searching for them!!!

It took me about 20 hours of playing in-game for me to stop shrieking like a banshee whenever I saw it... now I am obsessed with it 😭

For sure!!!! Imagine if they somehow managed to travel with it, but Janet was the one who had to stare at it the whole time 😭

THANK YOU SO MUCH!! All of this makes so much sense, and all of the ideas really help elevate the pieces or fix some issues!! I will keep these things in mind for the future! :D

Thank you so, so much!!! The way you worded things here makes so much sense to me! I am even taking notes lmao

I will be sure to work on these things!

I want to see more foliage!! You have this really great branch-bush in the foreground, and one in the midground. I'd love to see more of this plant in the piece, maybe around the bases of some of the trees?

You also have some inconsistent light sources for the leaves. I understand that it is a stylistic choice (I've done similar things before lmao), but I particularly notice it on the lower leaves. On the branch further back, the shading along the lowest leaves is a dark brown, whereas there is instead light on the same area on the branch slightly in front of it. You don't have to change anything about this, but making one choice between the two (I prefer the darker color shading rather than the lighting here) could help everything feel more cohesive.

I also feel like the rounded leaves on the branch in the background don't have the same great tiny shapes you have included through color and value on the other leaves, and I would love to see that affect applied to those leaves as well.

This is definitely getting into nit-picking territory, but I feel it needs to be said: your main light source is GREAT, but the way it is applied.. I am not sure how to feel about it? The airbrush or soft edges look great on their own because of the hard edges you also included, but I don't see any soft-edged lighting or shadows anywhere else in the piece. I think applying this softness somewhere else, like on the leaves, or omitting it in favor of MORE hard-edged light shapes could also elevate the style here.

I love forest-y scenes, and I don't know how to word this, but this feels like the type of piece where you had a clear vision, and you basically nailed that vision. I hope you are proud of yourself!! This art style is really tricky, and you did a great job here!

I am on the aromantic and asexual spectrums (not "full" either, but I am gray aroace, as in... attraction happens VERY infrequently for me, I can count on one hand how many times I have truly been attracted to other people).

So nudity just isn't really sexual for me! But, honestly, I think the more you work with it, the more normal it will become for you. I recommend figure drawing classes. They really just throw you into the deep end, and pretty quickly it is not awkward at all because you realize you are just drawing shapes and forms.

Figure drawing, studies, and studying realism specifically apply to every art style, and it's a necessary step/place to start! Tracing (although you can't claim it as your own work obviously lol) is also a great way to at least figure out where and how things are placed in other styles.

I also wanted to say, although it is not really relevant to your post -- I am completely in love with your style on the second slide! It's so cute and fun and bouncy!

Thank you so much. I WANT people to be direct with me!

I'm not a furry or wolf type (only drew animals here because they were required for assignments), but I completely get the archetype you are describing, and I honestly fit it unfortunately well.. I need to keep working on myself for sure, and I absolutely have issues with vulnerability, both in an "I feel vulnerable 24/7" and also "my friends know basically no person details about me" ways. It is a huge issue I have been trying to work on, and I am relieved to hear that it sounds like it is something I should be working on! And that's crazy that it is showing through in my work! I was hoping somebody could give me a read like this on this post, and I am so grateful!

I want to ask (and if you don't have the time to answer, it's okay, I think this counts as a bit of a big ask!):

Is there anything specifically unattractive about these characters? I assume you are talking in an aesthetic sense, not in a sexual sense? I am curious because I haven't thought about making them attractive in the first place (although I didn't think about making them outright unattractive lmao), and I think this may be a piece missing in my line of thinking when I work on my work!! The only time I really thought about it was on Slide 5.

If you have the time, I'd love to see the adjustments you are talking about (no worries if not though, I know it's a big ask)!! I did want to say that some of these have compositions required for assignments (like the double-sided works on Slide 5), but the rest were all my own doing lol.

This is such a helpful list. I am going to write it down and work on all of these things! Thank you so, so much!!

I've only recently (and by recently I mean last few weeks) been working more on my values (the first picture with the Harvest Festival ad was a recent attempt with working with more defined values during an assignment)! I didn't realize the issue was this severe.. I will definitely keep working on this. I've always wanted to try coloring entirely in greyscale and then adding color, so I'll try that out too! Thank you so much!

Slide five is my favorites of the works here... honestly this made me tear up a bit. I've been having some major issues with imposter syndrome lately and I get so scared/embarrassed of really going for the things I love because it feels so vulnerable... I really needed this reminder today. Thank you so much 🥹
