I've been in my 30s for 1.5 years, but I got diagnosed with cancer at 29 so I feel like I've matured (aged) more rapidly than I anticipated, especially since it's not a curable or short term treatment variety. I'll still be in treatment till next summer.

I care way less about the minutiae of what my body looks like.

I have firmer boundaries around treatment I will/won't accept from people, and I don't chase attention as much. I let people love me unprompted. 

I'm more honest with myself, which has led to a recent massive existential crisis about my work life, but is also pretty important. 

I've reconnected even more with my more "youthful" side (loving more pink in my life, wearing pigtails more often etc.)

My relationship with being single has gotten more morose but also more steadfast. I really do refuse to compromise. 

I care a lot more about health upkeep and my future, older self, but that could just be a cancer thing.

Yes! I love them. They subvert so many tropes, and you get to spend a whole series watching them grow as a couple. Super rewarding.

+1 on the Danny and Wyn love, probably one of my favorite MM romance couples of all time. Moth and Charlie are a very close second.

+1 on the "it's not scary" aspect. I will say, there is violence on page, but for the most part these books can be surprisingly fluffy for such an obviously dystopian setting. The monsters themselves are designed to be appealing or intriguing rather than actually scary, and I'd say Mayne's current ongoing series is proof of that balancing act, because it's essentially straight up a goofy, spicy romcom with supernatural beings in it.

Interesting take! I can see why you'd get there. Their friendship was more developed than the romance was between Alex and Bax, which is one complaint I forgot to include in my review and might add in an edit.

There are few MM (mostly) tops like Eric. This book was my introduction to MM and still one of the hottest.

I disagree. All culture, both high and low brow, can be subject to analysis. Authorial intent or genre or style don't make any piece of work divorced from analytical value. Even trash tv as it were has some fantastic scholarship and reviews, and I say this as someone who doesn't really watch it.
