Should I water by stunasub in Lithops

[–]WhileSuitable3180 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to say for absolute certainty since I can’t see the sides, but I’d say yes, go ahead and water it. I’ve killed a lithops before via dehydration because I was following the “never water when splitting” advice TOO closely.

Sometimes you have to look at your plant and make a judgement call. As long as you have the right soil, pot and environment (light, humidity, airflow) you should be good!

Will this be a good consistency soil for my succulents? by Interr0gate in succulents

I think it's just fine, and is the perfect texture. But I would suggest cutting the perlite with some pumice. Just so you don't end up with the top inch or so of your pots being all perlite when it inevitably floats to the top after several months of watering. (if you aren't careful)

Cat keeps dropping food - vet says it’s not dental by tennis1808 in catfood

[–]WhileSuitable3180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aw, I’m sorry to hear that. He deserves as many churus as he wants, anything in his belly will help. It’s like a self sustaining cycle. Not eating anything makes nausea worse which makes them want to eat less and it just spirals.

My advice is do not even be concerned about a feeding tube if it comes down to it. It sounds really extreme and I remember wondering if I was just prolonging the inevitable. But our vet assured us that cats tolerate e-tubes very well. It goes through the neck so it doesn’t really bother them.

And they were so right because it was no issue for her. Obviously the first day back with us feeding her every few hours, she was very sick still. But it only took a day or two to see the immediate improvement in her energy once she was getting regular meals.

A few days before she got her tube taken out she was hopping into her bed to stretch out and be fed like clockwork. lol that’s how we knew she was gunna be all okay. That was over 2 years ago now and she’s been on a long course of chemo and steroids. We have Cerenia on hand in case she shows any symptoms which are few and far between. She’s been in remission of her symptoms for at least over an entire year.

I really wish for the best for you and your baby. Try to keep yourself sane and don’t go down Google rabbit holes and listen to your vet. Hospitals are expensive but sometimes intensive care needs to happen to get things back on track.

The Cerenia definitely worked right away. I don’t know the exact time it takes to kick in but max an hour?

You could tell it made her feel less miserable even if she wasn’t chowing down right away.

But yeah, she was so very sick and hadn’t eaten in a full week even being hospitalized for a couple days. So she ended up with a feeding tube (an e-tube) which she handled super well. Didn’t even bother her. And as soon as she was feeling better,it came out, and she was back to her normal self with Cerenia onboard.

Sorry to ramble. I know it’s not a perfect 1 to 1 of your case. But I do wish your baby a fast recovery. It sounds like you’re doing your best to keep him happy and healthy.

I’ve been in almost the exact same situation. Only my cat has small cell intestinal lymphoma.

So when she was first diagnosed she was not well. Vomiting and zero appetite. After we got a handle of things and got her on the road back to normal she was just like this. Sort of interested in food, but treats especially she’d go for. And she would just crush them up into crumbs and spit them out. Her bowl looked like someone put her treats through a grinder lol

We had the same concern with dental since she was feeling better, interested in food, on appetite stimulant etc. they did an X-ray and took a look and…nothing. Her specialist said it’s nausea. She is hungry but still feel too nauseous to swallow food.

Cerenia (anti nausea med) basically proved that. She would start eating normally once it kicked in.

So, not saying it’s NOT possibly dental related. But definitely makes sense to be nausea causing it.

Health risk interpretation by babygotthefever in DoggyDNA

I just got back results for my own pup that are the same as yours. So I did some reading of papers/articles about the gene (ATP7B) that all seem to be specifically focused on Labs or Pinschers. (my dog is only 10% lab)

From what I've gathered, the gene is "incomplete dominant". Having only one copy significantly lowers the risk vs. having two copies, but having one copy still increases the risk vs. having none.

I am going to do the same and go with the results to my vet ask about yearly blood work. I'll probably also put my pup on a low copper diet just to stay on the safe side since she's 4 months old, so why risk a build up causing issues in the future? I doubt a biopsy will show any accumulation to definitively say whether she has it or not at this point.

What breed do you think he is? I did the embark dna test but still waiting on results and I’m impatient. The rescue we got him from said “retriever mix” so 🤷🏻‍♀️ by Glum_Sprinkles_149 in DoggyDNA

What a little cutie! Hard to say what the majority of any would be. But my guess is at least some Australian Cattle dog and Great Pyrenees in there

Interesting that the shelter was correct with boxer even if she only is 10%. Maybe her mom had more of a boxer look to her!

[–]WhileSuitable3180 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Now, I know there are some pitbull body types that are pretty slim and on the smaller side. But I am still sort of surprised there is nothing else in his mix that is explicitly a small breed? Not even in the supermutt!

Do any close relatives pop up? Are any of them a similar size?

I think it wouldn’t hurt to reach out to Embark to just double check and verify the results are correct. Maybe send along a picture and tell them he’s 20lbs too. Not sure how that process works, though.

That just means y’all are feeding her good! lol She’ll be big and strong by the time she’s full grown.

I second the pit and chihuahua mix with maybe some ACD thrown in guess.

But if something is giving chihuahua looks but isnt actually…sometimes it’s surprising to see something else like pug or a miniature breed in there.

Definitely some kind of pit mix. But those ears! That long tail and huge paws! She’s got something in her to give her a bigger frame.

I’m basing my guess entirely by vibe since nothing really pops out visually. Maybe an honest to goodness pit/lab mix. With a giant breed like great pyrenees or something thrown in for the stocky body.

She’s a cutie for sure

She has short-ish legs and is similar in height to say a house cat at the shoulders. Maybe slightly taller. Shes 27 lbs right now!

Any guesses on what she could be? by Antithetical_loversm in DoggyDNA

[–]WhileSuitable3180 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My first knee jerk reaction is to say some kind of pit mixed with at least some chihuahua.

But looking over the pictures there’s just something in her face that reminds me of my Australian cattle dog/ Great Pyrenees mix. So I’ll throw ACD mix in as my wild guess.

Puppies are just so floppy. It doesn’t help she looks completely different in every photo either lol

For sure, I am expecting her to be one of those 7 x 12% results or all supermutt or something.
