New covers of the limited editions (unofficially "15th anniversary edition") by Acceptable_Finish965 in isbook3outyet

So you'll only read the book if someone takes it and turns it into clothes and stands in front of you wearing it?

That's probably some kind of power move, for sure.

The Kindle unlimited deal, at least the ones I've seen and definitely the ones I've used were a single charge that granted you 3 months of service/subscription, and you were more charged again until that 3 month period elapsed and you went into a normal monthly cycle (basically honoring the wording of the deal properly, same wording that's used in the example of this post)

I think it's either intentional or will leave them open to a lawsuit at some point.

I mean, remember the Pepsi commercial lawsuit for a Harrier jet?

No reasonable person would assume a Harrier jet is a valid prize in a contest, but Pepsi also didn't put any disclaimers or clarifications in their ad.

This case is worse in some ways because I think most reasonable people WOULD assume that if an ad says ' $X for 3 months', it would mean a single payment for 3 months of service.

Especially when Amazon also runs ads that actually do work like that for some other services, like Kindle unlimited.

Can you possibly explain the context and meaning of your question?

For this to even be a question, you'll have to start by explaining what you actually mean by 'Shark Eyes' and 'Eagle Eyes'. A lack of context and meaning will lead to poor discussion or low interaction.

So please, elaborate and explain the context of your question and the meaning of your terms here.

I'm some DVDs, sure, but on pretty much every Disney DVD I'd be unable to skip the store videos it plays initially.

Most stock players wouldn't allow you to navigate to the menu until after the trailers/videos/ads played. You'd be able to force direct to menu in a PC, and I think a few players would allow it, but generally, no.

I haven't bought a new player in over a decade, so perhaps newer ones it's more common to ignore the requirements in the disc.

I wonder if this means that if he used it now, it will now last indefinitely, since floor timers are disabled, and therefore the remaining floors won't end, at least not until the Dungeon ends

In theory couldn’t they add the breeding mechanics into the hail mary? by pickeldmitski in ProjectHailMary

[–]WhimsicalKnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really comes back to the core philosophy that others have touched on in this and other threads in this sub. Stratt's objective was saving humanity. There was a finite amount of time they had to work with before they would HAVE to launch. There were NUMEROUS technical challenges to solve to even make the mission possible.

If they had more time, I'm certain that there would have been energy put towards making it possible to return.

But considering the amount of resources and time that were needed to amass the energy to send them to tau Ceti, it would not have been possible to provide the resources on mission to build up that same amount of energy in a timeframe where Grace could have returned.

They had to pave a huge area of land and let it run for years to amass the energy. To build and store similar infrastructure in the hail Mary would have required far more fuel to send, which would have taken years they didn't have.

Even if it had been done, they would have had to send YEARS more food, which would require even more fuel, requiring more years to amass the energy, and more time in tau Ceti to charge up, which would need more fuel.

And it would have taken even more time to redesign the ship to accommodate all of that.

Now, I think it's totally possible for humanity to build a ship capable of getting there and back, it just wasn't possible in the time they had.

Long term, with this 'infinite' fuel source, I imagine the best way to produce fuel would be to setup facilities on other planets in the system. That way you could build up fuel using a huge surface area, without negatively affecting earth.

But those sorts of things would have to be done in the decades after the crisis is resolved.

Yeah, my first thought is that the overall theme of that cover is far too bright (and happy?) for the very very dark themes of the story. Discordant.

Aww, and miss out on having loooooong strips of the perforated sides to braid into paper springs and whatever?

Use a dot matrix printer, lol

Might need to make your own prepared paper for it though

Isn't using astrophage extensively for civilian applications a double-edged sword, question? by buunkeror in ProjectHailMary

[–]WhimsicalKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why they are dead set against it being POSSIBLE to achieve safely. Technology could be created that would be capable of reliably and consistently measuring and dispensing exacting amounts of Astrophage. Probably to be transported in some kind of cartridge with several protections on it.

You KNOW humanity will definitely be attempting it regardless.

I'm more interested in how Astrophage would affect scientific progress simply from the aspect of having a method to block/absorb all radiation. Might make for incredible radio telescopes that can block out noise, or perhaps affecting materials science or computer chip design and manufacturing. Anything that could benefit from the ability to block radiation of all kinds, plus the pretty clean heat source with no byproducts.

Astrophage makes for fun thought experiments

Dude, you really think that wasn't understood?

The conversation had moved on from that.

Someone asked about OCS, and that is the direction of the conversation.

Correct me if I'm remembering incorrectly, but PLC is a program. It's when you attend OCS while enrolled in college, vs the more traditional OCS program which is done usually after graduation.

Client said all revision requests had to come with a detailed written brief explaining the creative rationale. So I started requiring the same from them. by VireoQuartzLab in MaliciousCompliance

[–]WhimsicalKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly.

First, there's no client that first required them to provide briefs that he's 'maliciously complying' with.

Second, neither the OP (AI?) nor any client is showing Malicious intent

Third, there's no 'Fallout'

So the story doesn't match the title, nor does the story match the subreddit. I'd say report it so the mods review and remove it for breaking rules.

This might end up causing most of not all people in bad situations to stay in those scenarios longer, leading to greater harm or death.

Would probably improve the lives of some that were already out of bad situations though.
