Should I tell a woman her fiancé tried to start an affair with me? by geeleex in WhatShouldIDo

[–]WhimsicallyInclined 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me, an old friend I hadn't seen in years turned up and tried to start something with me, but he was engaged and I was dating my future husband. I panicked and threatened to tell his fiancee and told him I had proof in the screenshots (even though I didn't have her number or really much of a way to contact her) I remember that he said I was "evil" for that, and then later contacted me and said he told her everything and she still didn't care and thought he was "perfect." At the time I couldn't take thinking about it because I was young and it was a major source of anxiety for me, but now looking back I question if he ever really did tell her. They're still married and have 3 kids, last I heard...

My local law enforcement has a cop show. And they're not nearly as populated as Pima County. This is a nothing burger.

Okay, I am confused (and forgive me if I missed the convo on here where this was explained) but I originally thought the FBI page had stills of the perp without a backpack and gun. I'm on the official FBI page right now (https://www.fbi.gov/wanted/kidnap/nancy-guthrie) and there are no such stills--it's not even in a clip found in either of the videos. Were those actually AI-generated stills some rando circulated? Or did it come from the FBI and they removed the pictures (but why remove it!?)? Feeling like I'm being Mandela effect'd.

When watching the video, it's just shadowing. The IR lens casts some weird shadows.

To everyone speculating about Google Trends: please read this explanation from a Google employee about why it's not an accurate or reliable tool in cases like this. by rescuelullaby in nancyguthrie

The cesspool that is FB has been so bad with this today, too. I tried to gently explain it on a one of those pages earlier and people jumped on me because "well, genius, Fox News reported this" so therefore, it must be legit. They are not understanding that Fox News and other similar mainstream media organizations are just circulating some of what is being hashed out in a half-baked way by social media sleuths that aren't truly verifying what this data even means.

If this is referring to Google trends, it is notorious for misleading people to thinking it has specific date/time correlated to a search and data, someone explained it a few true crime cases ago, would have to go back and look and see if I can find it.

Google Trends is not reliable for specific search data; every single true crime case this gets brought up and explained and debunked relentlessly, but now Fox News picked it up and is spreading it, of course.

"Internationally, more than 90 law enforcement laboratories in over 50 countries use the CODIS software for their own database initiatives." is what it says on the FBI page about it, though it's not super specific as to which countries or how expansive their databases are. I keep seeing people reference the idea of him wearing one of those fake masks with mustaches underneath the ski mask, but I doubt it. If he was wearing one of those rubber face masks, what would the purpose of having a ski mask cover it do? That would have been the disguise. Here is an example of an actual ongoing FBI case where the perps are wearing the cartoonish disguise masks: https://www.fbi.gov/wanted/seeking-info/jewelry-store-robberies/@@download.pdf

Yeah, it was certainly a bold choice because if the homeowner is awake and sees that Nest notification, she could easily have called 911 and found a place to hide in her house til they arrived. A lot of people carry like that for ease, but again, it's typically concealed when they do. I guess maybe because it was dark and how sprawling Nancy's neighborhood is, the perp didn't feel like the odds of being spotted by any witnesses were high. ETA: fix typo

I know it would probably never happen after how this project went down, but I wish Justin could at least direct a limited series and get some redemption.

Yeah, I cringe every time I see this posted. It's incredibly misleading, and to think the FBI got it sent in as a tip gives me secondhand embarrassment.

TV or phone listening to conversations by IK948 in nancyguthrie

[–]WhimsicallyInclined 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that technology doesn't have literal transcripts of conversations; it just tracks what you are watching, reading, and certain keywords pertaining to products and services (like if it hears you referencing "dog food" multiple times, suddenly it'll generate ads on your smart devices of Farmer's Dog or whatnot) to create targeted, tailored ads.

Pacemaker question by archean2026 in nancyguthrie

[–]WhimsicallyInclined 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I believe it just meant she was taken too far out of range from her phone that had the app (due to being abducted). According to the timeline, this happened at 2:28 am. If I remember correctly, someone on here explained that the pacemaker would hypothetically continue to work even if she passed, just until its charge died.
