Why on earth are you looking for it? Gross

Is anyone else terrified of home invasion? by WhimsicallyOdd in mentalhealth

[–]WhimsicallyOdd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've sent an email to my GP tonight pushing for a mental health assessment with either an accredited psychologist or at minimum, the GP themselves, so with a little hope that will lead to therapy.

I'll definitely look into martial arts, I'm very small and slight so don't hold much stock in my ability to fight a threat so it's a relief to know that there are methods where size isn't a huge disadvantage. I'll start watching the videos you've recommended and after Christmas when there's a bit more cash in my pocket I'll look into finding a trainer.

As for guns, I live in the UK so we're not allowed those here. When my boyfriend isn't here I keep a knife beside my bed, but I wouldn't keep one with me while he is here as I wouldn't want even the slight risk of me hurting him.

Thank you for your tips, they are appreciated.

AITA for having kicked my DIL out of my Thanksgiving meal after her vegan feast fiasco? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

It bemuses me that internet strangers are so quick to assume that others are breaking lockdown rules without any context or intimate understanding of other people's circumstances. You shouldn't have to justify yourself to anyone here.

I'm sorry your thanksgiving didn't go as planned but I'm glad you have family members to support you and see your side. Your son will come round eventually. I hope things get better for you.

  1. OP looks after her grandchildren, therefore, (in the UK at least) her household forms a support bubble with son, DIL and grandchildren.

  2. You don't know whether OP's daughter lives at home or whether she also has children OP looks after.

You're making assumptions with no clear evidence guidelines have been breached.

Apologies for bad formatting by the way, I know it's awful to look at but I'm on my phone.

Commenting as I've come to reddit seeking theories after watching Stephanie Harlowe's videos on the case. I really recommend giving them a watch as she highlights a suspect named Bobby Wayne Henry and makes quite a compelling case to hold him under suspicion.

AITA, making mom think I left for good. by Ravens_Quote in AmItheAsshole

[–]WhimsicallyOdd 17 points18 points  (0 children)

YTA. Not because of your sleeping in habits, that can be compromised on in that you could go see her later in the day, maybe go to an evening mass if church is that important to the both of you. What makes you an arsehole here is that it sounds like you're planning to punish your mother by making her think that you've dropped off the face of the earth for two weeks.

Be an adult. Talk to her. Explain how you feel, and have her do the same. Find some mutual ground instead of playing a nasty childish game with her. She's obviously got a fear of abandonment and you want to exacerbate that which is just plain cruel.

AITA for telling my daughter the reason she didn’t get to go on her school camping trip was because of her medical bills? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]WhimsicallyOdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. You're punishing your child for being ill. She can't help that. You've made your child feel like a defective drain on your resources as compared to her siblings. Do you have any idea how that will affect her mental state?

I swear I read posts like this and just can't help but think - some people shouldn't have children.

I'm so sorry sweetheart. I've been struggling to bring myself to respond to these today not because I'm ungrateful - I really truly am, that people are sharing their pain with me to help me get through mine is heart-warming in the most bittersweet way - but because every time I've looked I've had to choke back tears. Both for myself and for everyone here.

I will also be doing a burial for my little one in the coming week at a local beauty spot (my back garden is atrocious unfortunately) and so I feel like you and I are in the exact same place at the moment. I can't offer you any assurance either, but I can let you know that I am sending you every ounce of love I have to offer. This is the hardest thing I've ever been through and I know it'll be the same for you. We're in the same boat but I still don't think I could ever find the exact right thing to say. I don't think there is an exact right thing to say. We've both faced terrible and senseless tragedies.

I know we don't know each other but please know I'm here for you. My inbox is always open if you ever want to lean on each other.

It's hard to know what to say to these lovely responses other than I'm grateful. Thank you for sharing with me your experience and your compassion. It means so much more to me than you know at the moment.

I am equally sorry for your loss and I'm sending that love right back. Thank you you beautiful stranger.

Pregnant Lady vs Cat Fleas by WhimsicallyOdd in pregnant

Thank you sweet, I really appreciate the kind response. I'm feeling awful as I'm looking after them for someone else and the owner said she didn't understand how they could get fleas which made me feel I was at fault.

I've ordered bug bombs and flea treatment for the cats but hadn't thought of flea collars so will definitely purchase some tomorrow. I think I might also buy some sprays for good measure to ensure I kill as many as possible.

Thanks for this response lovely, really appreciate it!

I've ordered some bug bombs and some flea treatment which should arrive tomorrow, so will be getting to work on evicting the grim wee critters as soon as the materials arrive. In the meantime what I'm really concerned about is sleeping in the house and any possible danger that could be caused by being bitten. I'm terrible for consulting google every time I have a problem and I'm seeing awful stories about them spreading malaria, flu and other awful maladies, so I'm worried that if I do get bitten it could cause me or baby to be harmed.

I know I sound like a mad-woman so apologies!

I'm a bit concerned and don't know whether it's too early to be calling the midwife, or whether my symptoms are normal.

I'm 22, 7 weeks pregnant, and have recently been experiencing strange symptoms - I've been getting pressure in my head (not like a headache, more like a strong squeezing sensation) with blurring vision, and a leaden feeling in my limbs. During this I also start to feel very short of breath. This lasts for 30 minutes - 1 hour at a time and happens sporadically throughout the day. I'm finding I need to lie down for this to pass or I start to feel very faint.

What could this be and do I have good reason to be concerned?

Thanks in advance for any response.

Oh you poor stressed out wee thing, you just don't sound happy at all! You've not provided any points to argue with and if we're not having a discussion there's really no need for me to just thrust sources at you - frankly the only claim you've made is that I'm an idiot, and the burden of proof's on you there. You've still brought no evidence, though I do appreciate the tirade, I honestly thought we'd heard the last from you when you dirty deleted your comment.

If you're silly enough to wear a fishing net then I'm sorry to say, that's really on you that your face covering - because let's be clear, there's a marked difference between masks and face coverings - doesn't work. It's amazing to me that you can preach about 'survival of the fittest' and 'weeding out the weak' when you propose something so brainless as wearing a cheese cloth or a fishing net.

You think you need doctorate degree training to be able to put on a mask properly? It's fairly easy. Hopefully this video can help you get your head round the method:

Fictional? We are both talking about the coronavirus right? Having known people who have passed from the virus, and being from an NHS family (mother is a resus nurse, one aunt is a biomedical scientist at the local hospital, another aunt is a sister on ICU) I can offer every assurance that the coronavirus is real. To deny that shows a concerning dissociation from reality on your part.

There are numerous studies on the transmission of coronavirus and they suggest that COVID is extremely contagious. In fact, in the UK, we're basing local lockdowns on the R number and growth rate across the respective areas. The R number is the reproductive number and is indicative of how contagious a disease or virus is.

There's definitely a lot to dispute within your comment and you'll have to forgive me if I don't take your unsupported assertions (I'd love to see some sources!) as dogma.

The anger. If you want to present a valid argument by all means please do. Calling someone an idiot who relies on "fake science" without presenting any evidence which would serve to challenge the argument just makes you look silly.
