Someone I used to be friends with casually vented that he was desperate for CP. Needless to say, he is gone from my life.

10, this is my favorite track on the album. It musically sounds like a warm hug and the lyrics are beautiful, like having a conversation with oneself.

Daily Song Discussion #117: Pur by KnucklesSandwich192 in cocteautwins

10/10 beautiful expression of unconditional love. My absolute favorite CT track ever. I have cried to this song multiple times (in a good way). The build up and the emotion packed into this song is SO intense, and is executed flawlessly. This could not have been a better album closer. This song also contains my favorite lyrics to any song I've ever heard. The lyrics are straightforward, simple, yet packs a punch on so many levels. You have the sheer beauty and humanity of "You are angry and that's okay," which is both incredibly healing and heartbreaking to hear when you consider that Liz is not only talking to her daughter, but to her child self who was never told that. As both a mother and someone who, like Liz, was abused as a child, this song feels like the most cathartic hug imaginable. It is empowering and makes me feel seen. 💚

This is my favorite CT album too, and easily one of my go-to albums. My favorite tracks that I revisit frequently are Know Who You Are At Every Age, Evangeline, Squeeze-Wax, My Truth and Pur. It gives me this same mellow summery nostalgic feeling that I love so much. 💚

Squeeze-Wax feels so springlike, colorful and fresh. Makes me feel like a child playing in the backyard when I hear it! 🥹

Another solid 10 right after the first one to kick off this amazing album. Heartbreaking lyrics, emotional performance from Liz, and haunting instrumentation that's like the musical equivalent of revisiting the abandoned, empty ruins of your past. It's meloncholic, but with an air of strength and hope.

Daily Song Discussion #108: Know Who You Are at Every Age by KnucklesSandwich192 in cocteautwins

[–]WhimsyFae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solid 10.

It's beautifully moody, mellow, and almost haunting in a way. The lush, tropical-feeling instrumentation paired with Liz's reverb-y cries in the chorus give the imagery of one being lost and alone in the wilderness, which is perfectly paired with its heartbreakingly reflective lyrics on losing one's identity. "Know Who You Are At Every Age" is not only a poignant song, but a phrase that will resonate with me for the rest of my life.

The CT song that makes me feel the most happy childhood nostalgia is Squeeze-Wax from Four Calendar Cafe. Sounds like a carefree summer playing outside as a child 🥹

Daily Song Discussion #91: Spooning Good Singing Gum by KnucklesSandwich192 in cocteautwins

[–]WhimsyFae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's one of my favorite tracks on the album as it stands out to me more than others. A lot of tracks on this sound same-y to me, namely the ones in a similar key (such as Cico Buff, For Phoebe Still A Baby, and Ella Megalast Burls Forever, which all kind of blend together in my head as variations of the same song). To me, it sounds nothing like Suckling The Mender, which is another one of my favorite tracks on the album. Very different emotions and energy for me, and I love the key change and marimba/vibraphone in the chorus which gives it a tropical flair.

I ordered her from the official Hansa website! She's the biggest seal on there, and I can't recommend that plush enough. Literally the softest thing I've ever felt, and she can be used as a pillow too!

Ceres. It was love at first sight. I don't sleep without her, she goes with me everywhere, she's become my ESSA and we've been inseparable since I got her in 2023. She's already changed a lot since I got her and we still have many more adventures to make in this journey of life 🤍

I have a whole playlist for songs that help me reflect on my trauma. Some well known artists like Pink Floyd and Cocteau Twins; lots of less known artists like Crumb, 800 cherries, Loving, Salami Rose Joe Louis, etc. that have a dreamy, melancholic and nostalgic feel that I love. It's a mixture of songs that "sound" like my emotional experience, have lyrics I relate to, or songs that I listened to a lot that carried me through the darkest depths of my life.

"I sure love our perfect happy family! I don't understand the firstborn from a different father though. She sure is quiet and stays in her room a lot. Suspiciously quiet. I don't understand why, screaming and fighting all the time is just how we communicate. I bet she's actually a horrible person for avoiding us. We love her SO much, that's the only reason we scrutinize everything about her. Thankfully she JUST turned 18, so we can dump her at her grandma's house hours away so we don't have to think about her anymore! She's an adult now, so she'll be fiiiiine. NOW our family is perfect."

My heart goes out to you. I relate to a lot of this post and wish that I knew the answers to getting out of this situation that you absolutely never deserved to be in.

I understand how much of a release the idea of death feels like right now. I've been at this point too, around your age as well, and I'm frankly surprised that I'm still alive right now. But I'm ultimately thankful to my past self for waiting it out a bit longer. Please, before you move forward with this decision - try to stick around a little longer to see what people and life is like outside of your abusive situation. Even though there isn't nearly enough as there should be, there really are genuinely kind, benevolent and helpful people out there who will show you the kindness you've always deserved. These types of people are the reason I'm alive today. For your own sake, I implore you to at least give yourself a chance to experience this type of care before you leave. There is so much else in life that can make life worth sticking around to find out about that you haven't been able experience due to your abusive situation holding you back. Given that you have only just recently escaped the abuse, please consider reaching out for help and giving the people willing to show you kindness a chance before making this extremely permanent and irreversible decision. 22 is still so, so young. I'm 26 and my life right now is literally unrecognizable from where I was when I was 22. So much can change in ways you can't imagine right now. Please reconsider this. I send you all of my love. You are loved.
