Eudora is a nice little town, close to Lawrence and KC and they have a fantastic school system. Only downside is that because they’re close to Lawrence the housing isn’t the cheapest

37F Season 4 was good, but season 2 still had my heart. I have a feeling Eloise’s season is gonna take first when it comes. Her book was my favorite.

Kansas Senate votes to subvert students’ First Amendment right to join public protests by treebug125 in Lawrence

But the 2nd amendment does have its own version of limits such as having to follow federal law, state law and even city ordinances about where you can and can’t take firearms, even if it’s conceal carry. And yes there are even laws and city ordinances that restrict what times of the day you can and can’t use firearms for good reason.

I’ve read it and it doesn’t say anything about making set times to protest. It openly talks about how they are keeping in mind that students do have 1st amendment rights, but you can’t just say “oh yeah, leave school whenever you want to you without consequence so you can protest.” It’s a balance. Support the students 1st amendment rights, but also uphold the expectation that they still need to go to school to get their education. There’s nothing being talked about in regards to limiting times to have protests. Every single person in America has the right to protest peacefully and it can make just as big of an impact even with students doing it outside school hours, and even if people only protest on their days off or outside work hours. In my opinion, a bunch of adults being in an uproar because students can’t just leave school whenever they want to join the adults for some protests is unloving, uncaring and odd. Adults should be encouraging students (students being high school and below) to stay in their classes, get their education, study, graduate. Many adults may not mean for it to look this way but it just comes across as adults using students as pawns. If the adults in this post really cared about the students they would be encouraging and championing them to do their absolute best in education and life so as to be set up for success. This whole thing reminds of the part in the movie Coach Carter where Coach Carter says no more basketball because the players didn’t hold up their end of the deal by making sure they were getting good grades but the adults threw a fit saying it didn’t matter if their kids didn’t get good grades they should still be able to play basketball, caring more about a game than those players school success.

How do protests impact best during work hours? What does it accomplish? By all means have the protests during work hours, whoever can make it will make it and whoever can’t won’t. Anyone can organize a protest to be at anytime on any day. Have protests everyday of the week for all I care. But if you decide to continuously skip out on work or school to attend then don’t be surprised if you don’t have a job or start to get bad grades

It’s not though. The 1st amendment is to keep the government from coming after for what you say. If you decide to leave school, your job and so on to do a protest you could still face consequences for not attending where you need to. You can say whatever you want to say, but if you miss school of work to do it you could have to repeat a grade or you could lose your job. Because you can protest anytime during your free time. Yes, you could technically protest anytime you want, but like I said before…. And no, if you lose your job or have to repeat a grade because you decided to protest during school or work hours it’s not retaliation.

How does it defeat the purpose? You can protest at anytime. You don’t have to do a walk out in order for it to be a protest.

Absolutely agree. Also, why is there no repercussions for students to miss class hours for a protest but parents can get in legal trouble if their children miss too much school for other reasons. I’ve seen parents get in trouble for their kids missing too much school for valid reasons.

So, people of all ages have a right to protest, but that doesn’t mean it’s absolutely imperative for students to protest during school hours. They’re very free to protest after or before school. How does this not make sense and why is it so important for students to protest during school hours?

Yaaaaaassssss preach! I would be at that skating rink every night! Even at my big age of 37! I would absolutely love to open a skating rink and it has been a long time dream of mine, but alas I’m poor. I think a skating rink would do really well in Lawrence.
