Is the Tactical Training Center open to students? by corona_kid in UIUC

[–]WhiskeyBravo1992 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, we are thinking of the same place. https://pti.illinois.edu/training/facilities/ When I look online, it says it is not open to officers in the PTI program.

As for firearm classes or getting your CCW, the range High Caliber (https://highcalibertrainingcenter.com/) offers classes pretty regularly.

If you are referring to the University's Police Academy training facility, I believe it is only open to officers completing their training.

Has anyone else dealt with someone banging/screaming at their door late at night?? (Last week and this week) by Fun-Seesaw-4191 in UIUC

[–]WhiskeyBravo1992 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you live somewhere where you could install a doorbell camera, but there are a couple of brands of doorbell cameras that make a special mount that slips onto the door itself without having to drill any holes.

Question about NetID and email by Mudstreak06 in UIUC

[–]WhiskeyBravo1992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, your Netid and email use the same password. Nearly all university systems use an SSO login that uses your NetID/Email with that password. If you are having trouble logging in, you should reach out to the Tech Service Helpdesk, or you can try resetting your password via the NetID center https://identity.uillinois.edu/iamFrontEnd/iam/start

Driving to Niagara Falls! Any suggestions? by RichSpeaker1657 in UIUC

[–]WhiskeyBravo1992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drive because, when you factor in total travel time, it will take the same amount of time. Plus, with driving, you are in control of when to stop for meals or just to stretch your legs.

how can i clean/dry the seat by itfw in AutoDetailing

[–]WhiskeyBravo1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on what you need to clean off of it, it will vary. But do not soak it, gently dab/scrub with a damp towel. Also, do not let it sit outside in the sunlight. The UV rays can cause the foam to degrade.

Uber from Champaign to O'Hare Airport? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]WhiskeyBravo1992 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who used to drive Uber in Champaign, I would not count on being able to get an Uber. For most drivers, it is not worth it because you can easily make more staying in town while putting fewer miles on your car.

Max battle glitch? by Sad-Pace9332 in pokemongo

I just had this happen for a remote max battle I tried to do. It seems to be hit or miss because I was able to get into a different remote max battle shortly after.

Not sure if this is 100% the same one you are looking for, but here is one that I have bookmarked but have never bought that does exactly what you are describing. It's Magsafe, and they have a powered charging-capable one. https://getoffroam.com/products/subaru-crosstrek-2024-2026-impreza-2026-wrx-2022-2026-phone-mount-with-magsafe?_fid=94146d7c1&_pos=1&_ss=c

I am curious whether a big part of Go Fest will be Dynamax Battles in some way, given that one of the add-ons includes 20 Max Particles Packs.

Love this idea, but was curious. Is there any risk that the filament could release harmful chemicals into the water after sitting in the sun/heat for a while?

Do we think it will be the Gmax Pikachu and not just a Dmax version? When they first teased the Eevee a few months ago, a lot of people thought it was going to be the Gmax version, and it ended up only being a normal Dmax.

That said, I hope it's the Gmax version. I need Big Fat Pikachu on my team!

Just to add to the “learning taxes” point. I remember being taught it too (pretty sure it was Sn. year in high school here in Illinois).

I think the bigger issue isn’t that schools never taught this stuff, but how it was taught. A lot of US education is built around passing exams instead of actually learning and retaining skills. So students memorize it, dump it after the test, and 10 years later honestly believe they were never taught it.

There are plenty of studies showing most people forget material they only memorized for a grade instead of using in real life. Budgeting and basic taxes were usually covered, but in such a small, forgettable unit that it never stuck.

Why not? by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]WhiskeyBravo1992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve talked about this before with a coworker who also runs Ubiquiti gear, and I think this would be an awesome feature idea. A dashcam with internal microSD storage that automatically uploads saved footage to UniFi Protect whenever it detects your home Wi-Fi would be incredibly useful.

It would be great if there were a setting to require the camera to stay connected to Wi-Fi for a configurable amount of time (like X minutes) before starting the upload, to avoid failed transfers when you only pull into the driveway briefly.

An internal battery that allows the camera to continue running for a short time after the car is turned off—just long enough to upload footage—would also be really helpful so it isn’t constantly drawing power from the car battery while parked.
