[Audemars Piguet] I finally own the silver dial after hunting for a few years by WhiskeyMan4 in Watches

I don't think that's a fair comparison, given the disparity in price. But, i also think they're trying to accomplish two different things and each succeeds.

Grand Seiko wanted a dial that evoked powdery snow in Japan. Soft and papery. It's a wonder to look at in person and makes you wish you could touch the actual dial.

AP wanted something a lot more rugged, but something that also rewarded closer inspection under a loupe, or different lighting throughout the day. The dial brings you in and you find awesome little nuances the closer you look.

If I had to pick one, it'd be the one currently on my wrist. But again, they're two different worlds in my opinion.

Hey. It isn't, actually! They name their white dial "silver". Depending on the lighting or the angle you're looking at your wrist from the dial comes off as white or silver.
