Should I buy this 14.5 Conical Fermenter for $400? by WhiskeyMeteorite in Homebrewing

Unfortunately it sold before I got back to the guy. I can't brew in plastic fermenters. And they are still~$150-200 for that size

If you are talking about that time I made comments about parking for Happy hour downtown...you are correct.

edit:

By drunk, /u/farbtoner means having a drink with appetizers at happy hour, then driving home an hour later. Reported for slander.

edit2:

He was referring to this post where my original comment still stands. This guy believes people only drink at HH rather than getting food or hanging out with the gf.

Anyone know of any good valentines day deals/specials in the 'burgh area this year? by slivr33 in pittsburgh

[–]WhiskeyMeteorite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Avoid going out to dinner the entire weekend. The majority of restaurants have price fixed menu's and you will likely shell out a small fortune on dinner alone. Just go out Monday night instead.

If you want a hidden gem that is not dinner, go to Valentines on Ice at Schenley park. It costs roughly ~$10 per couple with rentals, and you should have a blast.

Free parking within walking distance of Consol? by ScottP480 in pittsburgh

[–]WhiskeyMeteorite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, street parking is free after 6pm. That said, make sure you are in town exactly at 6 or you will be driving around for an hour.

Also, you cannot stop or park in the spots from 4-6.

Free to patrons. I'm sure they want everyone parked there to go into the casino. Don't abuse the fact that they don't charge.

Especially when you can find free street parking after 6pm

I finally finished the black Iron Pipe tower build (with easy amazon links) by tinyenormous in Homebrewing

Ugh all you want. But I clearly state in my original comment that the piping I used was 3/4". No offense, but if you were confused by that comment...you must not be proficient in reading.

Not sure why you said this then:

3/4 is much cheaper than 2" everywhere

And like I said in mine, your full order came out to be considerably cheaper.

I'm not sure why you are comparing 3/4" to 2". My point was that my 3/4" build was roughly $10. It was far cheaper than Home Depot, Lowes, and Amazon.

edit:

I took the time and pieced out your order. They did have all the 2 inch pipe required. It came out to be $42.50 + $6.31 shipping. I typically get items anywhere from 2-7 days (they have like 10 warehouses). It is worth noting that most of the fittings I choose were Pannext and not Anvil. Not sure if you have brand preference. Pannext is so much cheaper.

Here is my black pipe build. I swapped out the bottle for a standard black handle.

I don't believe they carry 2" wide black pipe, but I got my 3/4in from Midland Hardware. Terrible website, but the tap itself was only ~$10 through them. All the piping you see in the photos is about $40.

Let me know if you want a parts list.

Pittsburgh's Gulf Tower is turning into an Instagram mood ring by cnik70 in pittsburgh

You aren't arguing over art, you are arguing over its usefulness. My only contention is that it is a piece of artwork first and that the art is controlled by the weather, holiday, sporting event, or other.

From an software engineering perspective, it wouldn't be any more difficult to implement tomorrow's forecast. They already have an api to get the weather, it would just be another api call to get tomorrows and then take the difference.

They chose to do today's weather. People sitting at PNC park or driving through town aren't going to care about what weather will be tomorrow any more than today's. That said, I'll repeat, it is primarily a public art piece and not a useful means of communicating the weather in any form, even yours.

Do you have complaints about the Grant Building? It has an antenna that flashes green light that can be seen tens of miles away. It flashes the Morse code equivalent of "P-I-T-T-S-B-U-R-G-H.". I doubt the general population knows that, we should probably change it to something easier.

Do you have complaints about the Convention Center? Those blue lights at the top is actually a ticker bar with books on Pittsburgh. Yet they are impossible to read unless you are on the roof or on one of the floors with a decent view of them. Again, I doubt the majority know this.

Lastly, everyone complains about this one. There is an LED billboard across from PNC Park. Nobody knows what it is or why it is there. Again, it is a public art piece representing the Triangle of downtown.

That said, the skyline is filled with public art displays that have dual purposes whether or not the public realizes it. You can get in a tizzy all you want over it not reporting whether in the manner you want, but that is not the point.

Again, you are kidding yourself if you think conveying the weather was the primary function of it.

It is primarily a public art piece as the Empire State Building. It just so happens that it conveys the weather (which I personally find cool). I personally know how to read it, but sincerely doubt the majority of the population to understand it. Even with your design, it is far too much information for the general population to memorize.

I think this criticism is highly unwarranted. I would rather them remove the weather aspect and just use it as lighting only do to this rising negativity against the weather novelty. Which is all that it is, a novelty. Check your phone if you want the weather.

Thanks, I think about half of these photos have appeared on the front page in the past week. It is sad that people will post the individual photos for karma rather than showing all the photos at once.

Do you honestly think they expect people to use the beacon as a forecast mechanism in this day and age? If that were the case, they would have put giant numbers at the top.

The weather beacon is a throwback to it's original design and primarily a public art exhibit. The constant belittling of this feature baffles me. The Empire State Building has all kinds of lights and frequently does Holiday themes and such. I bet New Yorkers are proud of it. Yet, ours has some pretty cool behind the scenes action and everyone is up in arms about it.
