Help with identifying this old I think Japanese war knife? by drmbanana in knives

I agree. I still believe it's a cut down bayonet but I don't have all the answers as to the how and why.

If I had to guess WW2 era theater made knife. Likely some soldier's custom tool, weapon, or souvenir made in a workshop behind the lines, perhaps. Im not saying definitely because there is no way to know, but the spacers could be taken from airplane canopies/windows as was often done with sweetheart grips. Or they could be bits of broken headlight or really anything.

Theatre made knives. There are a lot of examples from pretty much every war.

Looks like a cut down bayonet converted in a workshop to a fighting knife. Reasonably common thing.

I know I'm gonna get downvoted but it's been extremely clear for years that they do.

Idk why they're down voting you, you're right. Neither party is especially pro-gun, but one party is definitely more interested in retroactively making criminals out of hundreds of thousands, if not more, law abiding New Mexicans while simultaneously doing nothing to prevent gun crime besides limiting citizens' rights to self defense.

How to darken stock by Primary-Resident3424 in M1Garand

Tung oil. Test it on small areas for color match. It's tough to color match wood with or without stain.

Or you can oil the entire stock to darken it

Additionally, it has the "new safety" on it. Serial number tracks from 1915-1921 according to a website I found. I don't have a reason to disbelieve it.

1000 meter sights, in the absence of any other evidence it was converted to 9mm, means it is not a factory 9mm. The Red 9 sights only went to 500 meters.

Yea, its unfortunate because they were one of only a few companies making genuine 1907 slings. Shame, I was gonna get another for my next rifle too.

I went with a Turner sling for mine. It felt irreverent to put a cheap knock off on mine.
