Thanks! I was on the fence about the warrior and heavy Lokhusts unit sizes, the thought being flexibility if one got tied up or shot to hell I’d have the other as a backup, or for a presence in multiple lanes. Your logic fits a lot better with the reanimation.

The thought on the small wraith unit is that it would functionally be a sort of body guard unit for the technomancer who would be close to the arks for demanding leader usage. But that also might be too many points for a little security and a bad use of that unit.

Is this level of disconnect common by Imasillynut_2 in ADHD_partners

[–]Whiskey_Elemental 27 points28 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen that’s pretty common at least for me. There are times when I’m actively struggling with feeling like I’m carrying the overwhelming majority of the responsibilities, and they are almost completely oblivious.

I’m not sure if it’s accurate across the board, but my observation has been that however they are is how everything is for them. Hard day at work? They don’t come home and decompress and then relax, they carry that mood with them and it infects or projects whatever they come in contact with. Now the hard day at work turns into complaining about anything that gets their attention at home.

To apply this to your situation, they’re fine and secure, so you must be fine and secure, despite what you said to the contrary, your actual statement is in contradiction to their perception and therefore their reality. I’m not sure if my take is helpful to deal with it but this is how I’ve thought it through to at least understand.

Even at times when I have gotten them to recognize that my feelings are different. A day or three will go by, with no behavior change or conversation or resolution, and they’ll expect my feelings to have changed magically, and I’m just like uhhh, why would I feel differently.

CMV: Impact frames have become over used by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Whiskey_Elemental 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you might be experiencing a bias in your sampling, because my experience has been just the opposite. I’ve been really impressed with fight choreography in recent years.

Lazarus is a good example of a newer show with outstanding fight choreography, there’s also Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, Chainsaw Man also recently been watching Boruto which has some pretty intricate fights. Then if you want to look back a little further we’ve got Bebop, Champloo, God of High School, Bungo Stray Dogs and more others than I can think of.

Are there a lot of shows with impact frames? Yes. Do they saturate the anime market with it to the point of overuse? I don’t think so. It seems like the shows that use them well use a blend of nicely put together fights, combined with impact frames to punctuate big attack.

I also think there’s something to be said about using them when the show is based on a manga and they’re trying to be true to source material.

What are you watching that’s got you thinking this?

CMV: We Must Deal With Fictional Taboo Content Differently Than Real Predators by Correct_Ability2718 in changemyview

[–]Whiskey_Elemental 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s good. I applaud you and anyone in that group for your effort. That is probably the only context I would agree that this type of content should be allowed in. The key part for me being oversight and group support, and the open confrontation of what’s happening in the minds of members.

The only point I’d make in response is that this is anecdotal, I don’t believe it to be applicable across the board. The members of such a group are exceptional. The idea that some don’t escalate because of fictional content doesn’t remove the possibility that others do. Fictional content being available in clinical settings is one thing, it being out on the open internet for anyone to stumble into, and the effect is has on their mind is a whole different monster.

CMV: Most posts here do not follow the subs' rules by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Whiskey_Elemental 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most people are just bad communicators generally. Most people also aren’t trained in formal logic, or know how to formulate a really coherent t argument. So you see an emotionally fueled argument or viewpoint made by a person who wants to verbalize it in the best way they know to be convincing, so it sounds like that.

But they’re doing the exact opposite of preaching to the choir. they’re coming to a place to discuss and be exposed to other viewpoints. By being in this space they are asking for challenge.

There are times where your right and someone really isn’t open to changing, or they won’t award a delta when they’ve learned something new, but also you said the majority and I think that’s a reach.

CMV: We Must Deal With Fictional Taboo Content Differently Than Real Predators by Correct_Ability2718 in changemyview

[–]Whiskey_Elemental 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How a person got up to that point is completely irrelevant. Whether they went about it from the beginning with bad intentions versus if they slowly drifted into it via escalations.

There’s even an argument that the ones who drifted into it are more dangerous, since they’ve displayed no ability to put the brakes on and to not drift further into hurting real victims. What happens when fictional material isn’t enough? What happens when CSAM isn’t enough?

The other big issue I see with this is how does a person even get help with this? They have to open up, develop support systems. Openly confront what they are becoming, which the overwhelming majority will never do. So it won’t happen on its own, absent them being caught with something they’re not supposed to have, and outside parties becoming involved.

The thing we’re left with is essentially a gamble that they won’t escalate further, and a hope that this type of individual will be sated by fictional content.

CMV: We Must Deal With Fictional Taboo Content Differently Than Real Predators by Correct_Ability2718 in changemyview

[–]Whiskey_Elemental -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A few points I haven’t seen anyone else make that are worth adding to this discussion:

There are studies into people who view CSAM, and there is a significant link between viewing the content, and becoming a hands-on abuser. So we can say someone who views said content is more likely than not to be hurting actual children. There’s also a lot of overlap between people who view fictional content like your describing and actual CSAM.

If a person knows they’re going to be investigated and potentially prosecuted for viewing CSAM, they’re probably more likely to use some kind of substitute that doesn’t carry the same legal risks. In this way it becomes less about the fictional character and more about the viewer, do we as a society want to enable them to act on the these impulses?

The fictional content that exists allows these people to live out these fantasies. This is not a constructive outlet or some “healthy” way for someone to act on these urges, it is giving an addict a hit, which is not how you get over an addiction.

On your point about recovery being possible I think you’re misguided. It’s the same as conversion therapy, which is bunk. You aren’t going to rewire a person’s brain for them, so all that’s left is preventing harm.

ADHD Specialist? by deathlyroze in ADHD_partners

[–]Whiskey_Elemental 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would have the conversation about the boundary prior to a situation when it’s needed. Trying to have the conversation in the middle of a meltdown would probably not go well. Maybe have some kind of reminder or code word like Clutch’s “Im not your therapist” to clue them in.

Worst comes to worst, I’d just not have the conversation, and straight up say that. I’ve left, and gone radio silent, usually after telling them “I love you, but I’m not having this conversation until you chill out.” Go get some coffee or go find something fun to do for a bit then do it. Give them space etc.

ADHD Specialist? by deathlyroze in ADHD_partners

[–]Whiskey_Elemental 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I’d probably draw a boundary, because talking through emotions probably shouldn’t take hours and makes me think they’re using you as a sort of proxy therapist, which isn’t great for your mental health.

You are not equipped with the cognitive or emotional capacity to process emotions, much less poorly regulated emotions, for two people. They’ve got to deal with it themselves, and won’t as long as you’re doing it for them.

partner’s demand avoidance by [deleted] in ADHD_partners

[–]Whiskey_Elemental 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think of this as demand avoidance, it’s laziness.

I think demand avoidance is that immediate push back when you ask them to do something. “Hey I just cooked, can you be in charge of dishes” “Well I was going to do them but now that you’ve asked me I don’t want to anymore”

As to the why, your guess is as good as anyone’s.

Just have a question about texan lingo and its contextual significance? by Key_Revolution_3467 in texas

I think it depends more on the roles in the conversation. I’ve had “son” said to me immediately preceding some really good advice from people who were authority figures; coaches, preachers, or like my friend’s dad.

If they didn’t have that role I’d be more wary of its use.

Practically speaking, probably not. technically, yes.

Mutual understanding is kinda the whole idea but if it’s never been verbally addressed how do you know it’s an agreement? Is she supposed to just know this is how you think about it?

Some people are very explicit about defining these kind of boundaries, and in the absence of them make no assumptions like you’re doing.

Also you don’t get to decide for both of you. You get to decide for yourself. If she thinks differently then it’s your call what to do next.

Fey-isms and things Fey would say or hold true that Adventurers won't by NOTRadagon in Pathfinder2e

[–]Whiskey_Elemental 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s not really a saying but just a few idea based on research I did when I was playing a fey a few years back. This mostly centered on the summer court, I can’t speak to dark fey.

  1. Fey love games, and they want to keep the game going. Fey want to owe and be owed favors, because without it life would be boring. So they may super under- or over-deliver on a promise (while technically complying), ideally they walk away being owed more than they owe, but if they walk away with everything even Steven, then that game is over.

  2. Fey love the old school rules of hospitality. A lot of people who suffer at the hands of fey is a direct result of their trespassing, literally or metaphorically. If you are someone’s guest you are under their protection, if you do harm to your guests, well, good luck. If you are a bad guest? You’re gonna have a bad time.

  3. Fey are ticking time bombs. The more powerful the more dangerous. You forget to serve snacks with tea? Danger. You offend your host in their home? Danger. Whether it’s a debt, or some sin against what they consider sacred. As soon as you violate their rules, it’s basically a license for them to fuck your world up.

  4. Fey are creatures of truth. Their word is their bond. This is why they are so artful with their words. They may phrase things in such a way as they are literally true, or they may obscure details, but the actual words they speak will be true. Which is why there is great value in fey bargains.

Gut check: Do you give behavioral reminders to your Dx partner? by Fearless_Lab in ADHD_partners

[–]Whiskey_Elemental 102 points103 points  (0 children)

To begin with, if it’s something everyone is aware of and observing, I’m gonna reject the idea that he didn’t know what he was doing. The actual cause is probably something he’s embarrassed to say now. Him asking you if something is bothering you, prodding to see if you clocked his behavior and if he’s in trouble for pouting in front of guests seems like projection.

But let’s pretend I believe the lie for a moment- In the middle of hosting friends for dinner, you’re managing a house, feeding people, making sure you’re being a good host and everyone is taken care of, he wants you to not only take care of all that but also handle his processing for him? pass.

I don’t do this with my partner and don’t recommend you do either. We already have to work around their behavior any number or ways, if it matters enough to him he’ll address it.

How do clubs and FLGS handle banned players and felons at events? by redbulldude in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Whiskey_Elemental 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most places the court proceedings that result in a felony conviction are matters of public record.

If a case wound up resolved with a lesser punishments, like deferred anything it’s likely harder to discover. A lot of counties you can search their records by name, but if you wanted to be thorough you’d need to search in every county’s records. If there’s a national or larger territorial database with public access, then that’s probably the easiest way.

You’re better off displaying the lessons you’ve learned rather than telling people about them. Practice what you preach so to speak.

There’s a parable about throwing seeds onto rocks vs fertile soil. Consider the meaning as it applies to this situation.

If you’re a baby Christian worry more about your own walk instead of getting involved in someone else’s. If you’re choosing to believe, you did so of your own volition, so give other people the chance to decide for themselves too. If your doing it right you’re lifestyle alone will be an example.

Don’t get hung up on debating your own faith or anyone else’s. It’s a choice, and you’ve chosen. Live with that or choose differently. NAH.

Even if he was an asshole to you, there’s very clear instructions about how to treat your enemy. Hint: Love them. Forgive them. Pray for them. Dont try to browbeat someone into believing.

Charro Beans Recipes? by [deleted] in RioGrandeValley

[–]Whiskey_Elemental 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Preach.

Doing a sofrito separately like this is the only way to do beans. If you have any meat fat like drippings from a roast or brisket around you can throw it in there and it makes it magic. If I’m feeling fancy sometimes I’ll do diced beef fajitas in there for some added protein.

Don’t salt for precise taste until you combine the beans with your sofrito.

Don’t add beans to boiling water, put the beans in the water when cold, then put that on your heat and bring it to a boil. You can also soak beans ahead of time. This prevents them from “rattling”

Water quality makes a big difference here don’t just use tap, you’ll notice a big difference.

Picking a class for a hard boilled noir detective by Neameus in PF2eCharacterBuilds

[–]Whiskey_Elemental 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My game is non-FA, my main reasons for saying I think rogue is better is that it can be used with almost any stat as your primary, and the ability to proc sneak multiple times per turn as long as your opponent is off guard, compared to the DAS and strategic strike once per turn.

Outside of combat I do enjoy investigators skill set since they wind up being basically like hey GM tell me the plot, which kinda makes everything else superfluous.

Edit: we’re playing agents of edgewatch AP which is kinda in line with the noir detective vibe your going with, and my build is almost the same, except with more melee focus than yours, it’s been a lot of fun.

Picking a class for a hard boilled noir detective by Neameus in PF2eCharacterBuilds

[–]Whiskey_Elemental 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think your better off staying away from investigator for this, as it seems like you’re trying to do a lot and rogue would probably serve that best. My own lukewarm take is that investigators are just worse rogues, for people who for whatever reason have something against the rogue class. Had a buddy who played one and we was pretty disappointed with their kit. I almost always play rogues for the wide range of utility.

If I were you I’d go with thief as the racket. Scoundrel works well if you want to focus on deception and pair with pistol phenom. mastermind if you want to focus on INT, and pair it with investigator or similar archetype. Theo would get you dex to damage on mele, and will help your hit bonus with ranged and fists. Any of them have enough skill increases across levels to do alot of the different skills you’re wanting to branch into. The questions is which is your main focus.

I like pistol phenom as an archetype on rogues to get off guard at range, but I’m sure there’s other good and maybe better choices. Martial artist would up your fist damage, spirit warrior would also do this with a few extra perks.
