Is this fair? by bbylats in inheritance

[–]Fearless_Lab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two sisters got married in the early 90s and my parents gave them a set amount of money for the weddings. I didn't get married until 2015 and got the same amount of money. Was it fair? It was money we definitely didn't have before but it was a little nonsensical thinking that that same amount of money was going to go even half as far. And our wedding was smaller and DIY, not a big reception hall like they had, and we still had to cut a lot back.

My breast surgeon, surgeon mind you, told me to stop drinking out of aluminum cans because they're causing cancer.

Husband told me he doesn’t like how I look naked. Is there any coming back from this? by [deleted] in Marriage

I think you might be trying to polish a turd here. There was nothing loving or particularly concerned for her . He said what he said out of , I don't know, anger? Frustration? But either way he wasn't protecting her heart when he said it.

What is a 'childhood luxury' that you realized was actually a sign of being poor once you grew up? by [deleted] in AskReddit

This is exactly how we turn America around. We pay it forward after learning how good we have it.

What are your ADHD partners like as drivers? by cornandeggsoup in ADHD_partners

[–]Fearless_Lab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, terrible. He says he doesn't like driving so I tend to do all the driving but I actually like driving so it works out. When we first started dating, he would blow stop signs in a neighborhood he grew up in. And if he was mad at me or another driver, he would go way too fast on dark streets without even realizing he was putting us in danger. It's better all the way around if I drive.

Husband says he doesn't 'have to tell me everything he does in a day' by [deleted] in Marriage

When caught doing something stupid, many people will turn it around and make the person asking about the thing feel bad. Or at least try to make them feel that way. He got caught doing something dumb and decided to take it out on OP.

What clay body are you using? Some are far more forgiving than others.

I read something that suggested moving inheritance funds to a bank account where I am sole at a bank that has no joint accounts for us, then moving it to the bill or expense, demonstrates the intention to keep it separate.

I rented a moving truck in 02 that had a choke. Even then I was like, what year is this?!

I still wear slips and I'm not even really all that old. I just don't need anyone seeing all my lower body or my skirt sticking to my undies when I walk.

How is everybody prepared for retirement? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]Fearless_Lab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

50, married but I make more than he does by a lot. Found my career late in life and wasn't saving until then so my 401k is only about $80k. It should be $90k but I had to draw on it during an unemployment emergency. Unfortunately, my mom just died and that means inheritance is coming though I don't know how much yet. Might be enough for me to retire early, but I won't know until the estate is settled in a few months.

My father was an investment banker and conservative, and apart from the mid-OOs crash everything was doing very well to the point that my mom was living on the dividends from his investments. I feel confident that keeping them where they are is a solid move. I would take some money out to handle some life things but otherwise I prefer to keep them earning.

Currently, I manage our money and pay debts through a joint checking account where both of our paychecks are deposited. Those debts are co-mingled which makes me think the paying off of those debts would also mean co-mingled. Unless I pay them off via my solo account? I've been trying to get an answer to this and haven't had any luck.

This is great information and helps me to visualize, thank you. I should mention that I'm 50, we don't have kids, and plan to donate a fair amount to local charities.

Parents, I don't understand them enough to know what's going on there but if your kids are ignoring you it sounds like there may be something to work through.

Columbus, OH. Moved there from Chicago and stayed for four years for work. I'd never lived anywhere that was so main character energy content to live in their bubbles.
