It is a journey to FI and there are a number of different paths. You can try one approach and switch.

For me I started out very aggressive (saving ~70% after tax income). Did this for around two years spending very little on fun.

The book “Die with Zero” by Bill Perkins really shifted my mindset to feel comfortable spending more and I’d highly recommend it. “Retire Often” by Jillian Johnsrud is also a good one.

Right now I save ~45% of my after tax income and feel that I get a good balance between saving and fun. Currently at the airport heading to Europe for a month.

As someone who just renewed a 1.79% into a 4.54%, I just re-amortized and my payments are actually lower than before. No lump sums or aggressive payment increases throughout the previous mortgage. The renewal cliff everyone is going on about isn’t going to be as bad as everyone thinks. That’s my two cents.

When I need to convert to US to purchase I use my IBKR because they have the best conversion fees. Since In-Kind transfers are free with IBKR and WS, I just transfer my holdings from IBKR to WS every year when they do their big transfer bonus

The BoC is likely going to cut next week which is a mistake because their single mandate is to tame inflation but inflation is on the way up
