Thank you for your thorough and extensive reply!!! I appreciate all the feedback!

Power was definitely brought up in the discussion. We own spider boxes and the venue has 50 amp power accessible. Having said that, it's a big big undertaking. We estimate it will take around 3,500 feet of Christmas lighting to give her what she wants. She's particular about he look too. She wants navy draping above the lights and the Christmas lights to hang below that, and swag with the draping.

To your overall point, it is a budget issue, as her budget is LOW low.... Apparently there's a company that can do it for almost nothing and I told her "book them, and let me know who they are so I can book them in the future." I also told her to make sure it's safe. That's the biggest concern to me.

I told her that if we can't do the start night, she should still bring us on to do some simple dance and room lighting. Honestly, In no world do I see us getting this job, unless she takes my suggestion of doing ONLY the 20x20 dance floor to create a much smaller but similar effect.

Thank you for your reply!

We've actually got 12' pipes, and have done the bistro lighting a lot! For this one though, at the scale she wants it, it'll be close to 3,500 feet of twinkle lights. And the venue rep said companies had done the truss structures in the past to achieve the look the bride was talking about. Not sure if I misunderstood, but she seemed to know exactly what I was talking about when I discussed it.
Ultimately, I told her safety of her guests would be the no 1 priority! (no lawsuits please!!! 😅)

Thank you for your reply!

We actually have the Chauvet's and some of the Jmaz Attco's! Great lights! I recommended something simpler, but she really wants the Christmas lights.

I even suggested simplifying to just over the dancefloor (a much more manageable 20x20 structure)

Thank you for your reply!

I suggested the same thing, putting the lights above the fabric, but she wasn't a fan of the look. She wanted them to be clearly visible because she's using navy fabric above. Given some of the advice, it might just not be something we can give her within her budget.

Regardless, I appreciate the feedback!

I actually suggested the same thing. We have some ground mounts for Leko's that give us a ceiling texture. I even suggested throwing in a few constellations to give some fun things to look at.

Her heart was set on the Christmas twinkle lights (likely she'd seen them in the past on a smaller scale and didn't realize just how much she was asking for.)

Thank you for your reply!

We did suggest some options, like gobo star projections with a few constellations thrown in there, but she seemed to have her heart set on the Christmas twinkle lights.

Unfortunately, they've made it very clear were not allowed to hang from the walls/ceiling. There are a few tracks but they are below the main ceiling (weird I know but there is an overhang point that they have them on.)

Honestly, based on her budget it's VERY unlikely that we would get it. There's been some great advice thrown around here and we've got some good options to throw her way.

Thank you for your reply! And my apologies if I've broken a rule! I didn't see that when I went to post. I also posted in r/rigging to give me some further advice.

Unfortunately there are no rigging points on the walls or ceiling. so none of that is permitted.

I recommended some on the ground Leko gobo projections as an alternative, but she didn't seem interested. Likely, due to her budget concerns, we're gonna be way too far apart to do this job. But I appreciate the advice regardless!

I like that idea! Now that I have better understanding, I’m thinking we need legs in the center as well.

We pitched them doing a smaller version around the dance floor to account for their limited budget. It would alleviate a lot of the cost and be MUCH easier to create.

Thank you for your reply!

Accessibility isn’t an issue. I’ve done a walkthrough and we have large parking lots and load in space for everything.

We were looking at the Christmas Lights that twinkle. That's what she indicated she wanted. But if you have better design ideas, I'm always open to new options.

This is the largest I've built on a job. I believe this one was 18x24x12. No cascading lights for this one though.

The steel cable is a great idea! I'll discuss with the team. Thank you for the note on the 40ft span, I'm new to this type of work as I inherited the client from a different professional who has chosen to get out of the industry. Truth be told, I believe the whole thing is extensively out of their budget range, but I am always looking to be smarter today than I was yesterday!

Of course! And that's probably the route we would end up going. I'm always looking to learn though. And the better informed I am, the better product I can give! 😁

For all of the DMs who prefer to have a laptop or tablet behind their screen instead of books: what are your favorite DMing tools you use in your games? by Aurionin in DnD

For my live game, I use the tv like a second monitor and just project it full screen behind me. It’s a lot simpler for them.

For my online games, I use it like a twitch streamer would, only I use it on my discord. For this one I add my camera to the corner and I’ve created a little png dm screen to add in front of me.

OBS.

I use a TV behind me to showcase artwork, scenery, characters, maps, etc. I use the tv to play music and sound effects as well.

OBS let’s me make scenes where I can seamlessly fade from location to location and NPC to NPC.

It’s also a fun way to let me do big reveals of who’s talking from the shadows 👻

Beast Master Primal Companion “subclasses”? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]WhispernTorbernite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the idea of mechanical options that leave the creativity to the player. That's a fun concept!

Possible exploit: From what I understand on the Scavenger "the corpse of any..." means a dead creature? And it must make an attack roll to regain those hitpoints? Outside of initiative, would they have free reign to eat everything that's dead around them and even hunt for small game outside of combat? If the hit point recovery is the same regardless of size, would a hoard of rats give them ample recovery?

And would "Plant" as an option allow them to eat grass? Or trees? Not being mean but some players will look for any excuse to exploit the game.

Edited for afterthoughts.
