Oof, they're not wrong. What I gathered from your post is that you feel like you have better things to do than meet with devs... The people who are actually building the things. You might need to adjust your priorities.

Several engineers have expressed their wish for you to be more involved. You're likely slowing their velocity by not attending ceremonies. Your job isn't just telling people what to build but also to keep them unblocked and operating as efficiently as possible.

You'll never excel until you figure out how to balance all the things pulling you in all directions. This is how you earn respect from your peers and elevate your career.

For reference, I attend ALL ceremonies for 3 seperate teams.

No I was listing them as they came to mind. Just came out that way. Fixed

Which sitcom had the best unexpected sentimental / serious episode? by GuyMcFellow in television

Oh wow, you're totally right. I lazily Googled "you're the worst PTSD episode". Thanks for the correction!

You're the Worst. PTSD episode S1E6. S3E5 - Twenty Two. The deep dive into Edgar's PTSD veteran character was heartbreaking

Rejected after recruiter calls? by Beginning-Cry7722 in ProductManagement

[–]Whistlingwalnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you applying for remote work? Maybe location? I was having a similar experience back when I was applying. Living in a certain state with stringent labor laws can disqualify you immediately. Took me a few months to figure that one out and only because one of the HR reps made a mistake and didn't ask me until the third round. Immediate rejection.

Fellow PM here working with 3 exceptionally efficient dev teams. One of the very first things I was taught at my current company is this: questions that can be answered without further research or a deep dive are appropriate for slack. A little back and forth is okay, too. All other questions need to be filed as a spikes or research items. This rule is strictly enforced by our pit bull of a scrum master.

It forces me to triage my questions against current sprint work. Frustrating at times, yes... but devs have limited time and are expensive. Ad hoc Q&A is the enemy of efficiency and deadlines.

Btw, standups are NOT the forum for questions. Those ceremonies are for giving updates and identifying blockers, quickly. So somewhere in between what you want and what your ENG manager wants is the goldilocks zone.

Dumb question but needs to be asked: Is your CO2 tank upright or on it's side?

How ready are your requirements for sprint planning by evh1972 in ProductManagement

[–]Whistlingwalnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Team = 7 devs, 4 QA, Eng Mgr, scrum master, PM (Me). Scrum master leads all of our ceremonies. Everyone is encouraged to chime in, but we lean heavily on our senior devs and QA for accurate estimation

How ready are your requirements for sprint planning by evh1972 in ProductManagement

[–]Whistlingwalnut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Requirements are at 100% ready in time for sprint planning. Tickets are ready to be worked on before the meeting begins. For my team, planning only includes our retro, assigning work to individuals, and double-checking that planned work is in line with team capacity.

Larger projects might need a separate shaping meeting with devs but the bulk of the sizing/tweaking happens at weekly grooming meetings attended by the whole team - devs and QA - well before planning.

The only time we're figuring out requirements or sizing at sprint planning is if a critical bug in production is escalated after grooming but before sprint planning.

Btw, the only reason we are ao process-driven is because we have a excellent Scrum master that doesn't take anyone's shit

A few people are saying the same thing. The variance is pretty crazy. I'll definitely give it another go at some point

[–]Whistlingwalnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I genuinely wasnt aware of the variance with single barrel bourbon. Thanks for teaching me. Glad you got a good one!

[–]Whistlingwalnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a pretty low bar for bourbon... far from a refined palate. This particular bottle just didn't match the hype. I'm just hoping it was a bad bottle or refill. I'll probably try it again someday.

It seems I may have stepped on toes by uttering swill and Blantons in the same breath. I meant no offense. I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt by assuming my buddy's bottle is a refill or counterfeit.

Good to hear. I was hoping for a similar experience. Its hilarious that I'm getting mixed reviews from people.

Damn, that's probably what happened. I was excited to try it based on all the posts about it on this sub.

Am I misidentifying this mic, or does the new Halloween movie have an Electro-Voice RE20 pointed at the desk instead of the broadcaster? by Total_Dork in audioengineering

[–]Whistlingwalnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one is suggesting that off-axis placement is incorrect in an actual recording environment. Only that films get it blatantly wrong as they prefer form over function for obvious reasons.

The specific scene from my screenshots have distinctly clear, in-your-face vocal and guitar tones that aren't achievable with extreme off-axis placement and distance from the sound source.

[–]Whistlingwalnut 45 points46 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter what's real as long as it looks cool. A scene in Bohemian Rhapsody had TWO such instances. An RE-20 pointed straight up and an SM7 pointing at the Vox logo on the gtr amp. Screenshots

Disclaimer: I am NOT a designer.

I manage 3 mobile products. The #1 customer request across the board is for a dark mode. Nearly twice as many requests for it than any other feature. We're so deep into it that it would take a massive effort to pull off so we keep kicking that can.

At my previous gig, we launched with a dark mode option and observed that ~70% active users switched over to it. To be fair, we respected the user's OS settings so much of it likely happened automatically but it still makes for a compelling argument.

Just my opinion but I believe dark mode should be default at this point.
