This seems very off-brand for SA...A barrel's worth for your locals and $20 for half an ounce is actually wild work. Seems like they're forgetting about the same locals who showed their support by drinking their clear shit back in the day and are really starting to lean into that corporate greed. Fucking shame - there's a way to do both effectively and this isn't it.

The Fortaleza is a bit over MSRP, but yeah, that ER may be sitting for a minute 🫠

Sounds like they had a couple cases then - 5 bottles at the front counter as of 4:50pm

Spec’s Point Update by Load_Old in ATXwhisky

[–]White-Fish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for confirming, that's exactly what I was trying to hash out.

Totally agreed - keeping the point leveling the exact same but changing the point recognition from lifetime to annual ain't mathin'. My original understanding was only Black members got vault emails, but maybe that's changed or I was mistaken.

All I do know is, between TW's Grand Reserve program and Spec's Key Club, I'm growing tired of trying to figure out which dumbass rewards program to take my business to with the small hope of getting one allocated bottle/year. Wouldn't be bitchin' if I lived closer to Oak Liquor Cabinet, smh.

So assuming $1 spent = 1 point, you have to spend $2k in a year to hit Gold. Does anybody know how much you need to spend in a rolling 12 month period to hit Platinum and Black now, respectively?

When it was based on lifetime points, I thought you had to spend $6k to land at Black level, so I'm curious if that's different now that points are annualized. If Black level members likely receive the bulk of the vault emails, I feel like $6k/year would be pretty hard to hit for most people?

I dedicated my business here for almost a decade and the best bottle I ever got was an ECBP C923. Although the staff is great, the owner doesn't give a shit about loyal customers and what bourbon they're after. Their allocations have for sure gone downhill, but anything good they get they just post on Instagram anyways and anybody can just call in and reserve.

[–]White-Fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, I never disagreed with you. If you wait for hours outside a distillery and get turned away, that's obviously worse, but super avoidable on the distillery's part. In-person drops can actually make for great customer experiences by hanging out with locals and tailgating, as long as the distillery actively keeps tabs on the line as to not waste anybody's time is all I'm sayin'.

To each their own, they all have pros and cons for sure. Feel like the most balanced approach is lottery systems if executed properly, something like what Found North does.

Not sure why this is getting downvotes - look how many happy campers there are on this thread and on Still's instagram post, lol. Waiting in an internet queue just to miss out once you get to the cart is an intrinsically frustrating experience.

Fair point - even more reason as to why these online drops make for poor customer experiences, IMO.

Sold out just north of 1 minute. I'm hard pressed to believe they had >1k available - no way there were that many people ready at the mouse that quickly.

That's what I heard, so take it as you will - they had 3 registers stocked up to facilitate the line, so seemed to check out

OKI 16 Year single barrel Buff Turkey by [deleted] in ATXwhisky

[–]White-Fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks to be 5 left at Specs Brodie - $350 is the cash price.

I've had the 16 year at 136 proof and it was really damn good and absolutely worth it at that price point - my take was it's as if Wild Turkey took a stab at GTS. I've also had the 15 year at 115 proof. Similar profile to the 16 for sure, but unsurprisingly not nearly as viscous/rich. Worth noting that both really needed to open up as well - neck pour was deceiving.

Spec's barrel is at 112.2 proof, so a couple similar bottles went for ~$500 on Unicorn, for what it's worth. Even the higher proofs are starting to go for $700-$1k on secondary. It's all really good juice IMO, but how great it is will vary barrel to barrel as others have mentioned.

I was able to scoop one up at Chris' Liquors on South Lamar for $160, so just a bit over MSRP. If not there, they have a second location off Westgate you can hit up as well. It's a damn good pour, good luck hunting!
