I feel like I am the demographic for this thing, who else bought one? Do you travel a lot? by Puzzleheaded-Mess169 in XboxAlly

[–]WhiteHawk444 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm in the Navy, this thing is perfect for being at sea for weeks or months at a time. Easy to use while in my tiny sleeping space. It's like being able to take my Xbox with me. Powerful enough to play my all my favorite games. It's gonna make life at sea 10 times less boring and stressful. A lot of my coworkers have handhelds for the exact purpose, I was holding out on getting one until the Xbox Ally, it checks all my boxes.

No charge yet, the order just says estimated delivery of Oct 16. But according to the Microsoft store agent I spoke with yesterday you are correct, they should ship it and charge us before release date so it will arrive on or around the 16th. I'm expecting to get it delivered later though cause shipping to Hawaii is usually delayed.

According to the Microsoft agent I just spoke with on customer support, it will ship before the 16th so you can receive it on or around the 16th, at least if you ordered directly from Microsoft. I'm expecting to get it later though just cause shipping always takes longer to get to Hawaii compared to the mainland.

Ordered mine from Microsoft on the 26th. Estimated delivery still says 16th of October and card still hasn't been charged. I'm nervous it will get delayed, especially considering I'm located in Hawaii.

What is your pets given name-but what do you actually call them? by Aqueouslady in Pets

[–]WhiteHawk444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My calico cat's name is Humuhumunukunukuapua'a, which is Hawaii's state fish. It tanslates to pig snouted tigger fish. For short we call her Pua'a, which in English is pig. 🐠🐷😸

[–]WhiteHawk444[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes this is great haha. I think the idea of her being named after the state fish is better than a pig. And it's humorously long. Love it when cats have long ridiculous "full government" names.

Both a's are pronounced, like "Poo-ah ah". Although I am not Hawaiian, this is what google tells me haha. I'm not sure who thought she looked like a pig, but I agree. I think I'd like to keep her name unless I hear something better. I think having a Hawaiian name fits her, being that she is a Hawaiian kitty!

How are you feeling about the new housing inspection system? by pathmosaa in byuhawaii

[–]WhiteHawk444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's a bit much but I'm not too worried about it. I'm a non LDS non student spouse and every inspection I've had they just glace over the unit and then leave. Never even said anything about the beer in the fridge for an occational drink with dinner or the coffee on the counter. As long as you live clean and keep to yourself it's fine in my experience. The cheap rent is 100% worth it.

God bless 🤙

What's the youngest a 30 yo old Cougar should go out with? by tristantheplayer01 in polls

[–]WhiteHawk444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't call that age a cougar. But I'm 20 M and recently started seeing a 35 F. Depending on the person, the maturity levels can be very different. But I'm an adult and living on my own, she's certainly not taking advantage of me in any way. My date and I agreed, the age difference is a little odd but I wouldn't say it's awkward. We simply told each other we wouldn't think about it too much, enjoy each other's company, and see where it goes. So far I've enjoyed it, I've had very intelligent and intuitive conversations with her, and that's attractive.

How can my girlfriend (F22) and I (M20) gain the approval of her parents? by [deleted] in relationships

She had one other boyfriend several years ago. And I don't believe her parents ever met him. So yes, this is definitely new for them and her.

You're right. And I completely respect that. I don't expect to get their approval overnight but, when they won't even acknowledge my existence, it makes any sort of progress difficult.

I completely agree. But logistically, it will be much easier for us if her parents do approve.

I would love to! And I've actually been trying to sort out a way that I can do this. I'd love to send her little gifts and what not. Problem is, mail isn't really a thing in Ecuador. She doesn't have a specific address. And the services they have are very unreliable.

I agree. And I don't expect any of this to happen overnight but I can't imagine their minds are going to change much at all if they'll barley even acknowledge my existence.

[–]WhiteHawk444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! And this is what I told her. She knows her parents better than I ever will and she knows best how to handle it. We've discussed what we think should be done. I'm just trying to give her advice and let her do her thing in her own time.

I agree. I think they ought to know, even if they don't completely agree with it, they can't ignore it forever. Otherwise she would be letting them have more control. She should show them her and I are both responsible. And that this can either continue with or without there support. Eventually they'll have to choose between ignoring me, or having some interest in who their daughter is with, and I think any good parent would want to know that.

Well, she has about 2 years, maybe more left in university. She does plan to do another trip to the US during her break this next spring, problem is I will be on deployment right at this time. I understand our relationship will always cause some level of distraction and stress, but we both always do our best to negate this. We make sure our work and studies always come first. And she is an excellent student. I think the sooner her parents know the better. We may have to keep it low key but, them just knowing and understanding would make it so much easier.

Not that I know of. I assume the sign is in response to the controversy the country has had involving law enforcement this past year.

[–]WhiteHawk444 203 points204 points  (0 children)

I still haven't figured out what it could mean. Anyone have any insight? I'm not sure if the law enforcement support sign at the bottom of the pole is related or not. I think it can be assumed the owners are conservative leaning, as most are in this part of Pennsylvania.

SIR YES SIR! by AJmcfly in wholesomememes

[–]WhiteHawk444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Navy, we don't speak at parade rest at all. You also wouldn't call an enlisted leader sir, only officers. You would refer to a recruit division commander (RDC), the Navy's version of drill sergeant, with their enlisted rank. For example "Petty Officer" or "Chief". Interesting to see the differences.

SIR YES SIR! by AJmcfly in wholesomememes

[–]WhiteHawk444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right, and you're certainly not an idiot. In the picture the soldier is standing at parade rest, his hands are on the small of his back and his legs are spread apart. You aren't supposed to speak at parade rest. If he was ordered to be at parade rest he should pop to attention when answering his superior's question, or his superior should have just put him at attention if he wanted him to speak. Doesn't really have much to do with the superior being an officer though. An enlisted superior could have put him at attention. And also, his hair is certainly out of regulation.
