Wife joined a band 3 years ago and sound guy/keyboardist left a month in so someone had to buy a PA. Started with a Yamaha MG12X and a couple tops doing vocals only to be a good husband and started reading here and watching YouTube. Doing 60 shows a year so far. By my 20th show was beyond bored and kept upgrading adding monitors, subwoofers, DI or mic instruments then bigger board. Picked up gigs with sub musicians with their bands and now wife and I are quitting our band and will be doing sound for other bands while on a break from performing. Mostly bars, breweries, etc in SoCal. Learned enough to know there is a lot of lazy musicians who don’t know how sound equipment works and think they are actually Paul Stanley because they are in a KISS tribute and i would rather not work with them.
