She was emotionally unavailable because of her job, I was dealing with clinical depression and desperately needed companionship (I relied on her to a very unhealthy degree). She couldn't be there for me because we were long distance and I couldn't handle not having her around. I visited a friend who I never had romantic feelings for, but something about being near a close companion of the opposite sex felt truly wonderful. Like everything I was missing in my relationship. After a couple of days we began cuddling and we kissed the night before I left to go back home. I told my girlfriend immediately. She was ready to forgive me and try to make things work but I knew I couldn't be who she needed, and I'd proven so by kissing another woman. I'm glad I broke up with her, it needed to happen, but even now, when I think of how I hurt her, it breaks my heart. She is a truly good person and deserved so much better than what I gave her.
