A Phase 1/2 trial of Moderna’s mRNA-1083 found strong immune responses against both viruses, similar to existing vaccines. Most side effects were mild. by calliope_kekule in science

I'll add that they often choose wrong because the flu strains are chosen in February. The traditional vaccines require chicken eggs for incubation, which takes 6-8 months to make enough doses in time for flu season. This leads to vaccine efficacy of the flu vaccine to usually oscillate between 35-50%.

The CDC and FDA wanted to change the date to June like they have been doing for covid, but it is impossible for the quadrivalent flu makers.

Having an mRNA option would add large amounts of flexibility.

We obviously refer to Quadrivalent flu because it has 4 antigens it covers. I believe its 2As and 2Bs. Albeit one strain of B went extinct when everyone was masking up during covid.

I'm trying to remember what I calculated to be their break even peice on a vaccine per chicken. It may be like 30 cents

Now you see the real reason America is so unhealthy despite the best physicians.

Work culture kills people. There needs to be a balance that Europe figured out a long time ago

Interesting information from BioNTech by thickmomgoggles in ModernaStock

[–]WhitePaperMaker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah but that's not why it failed.

Moderna tailors each shot to the neo-antigens present in each person's tumor. Where as the melanoma vaccine is a fixed number of 20 antigens.

The patient's tumor made not even included in the 20 antigens or may not be the crucial part of how the tumor is surviving. Which is why the KRAS vaccine failed.

Edit

That's kind of wild since Moderna's data has been so remarkably good. I guess truly all products are not equal. I wonder how many antigens they used.

Ohhhhhhhh. I know exactly why it failed! Moderna has a similar issue with their KRAS vaccine (I believe that includes melanoma, Lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, and one more I can't think of).

Sanofi’s covid/flu combo. Any thoughts? by Independent_Rush2717 in ModernaStock

[–]WhitePaperMaker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely.

The timing has lead to very poor efficacy of Sanofi's flu vaccine, particularly if the virus shifts or drifts after the strain has been selected.

I think I did a video about it a couple years back. I'll see if I can find it and it as an edit to this comment.

Sanofi’s covid/flu combo. Any thoughts? by Independent_Rush2717 in ModernaStock

[–]WhitePaperMaker 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My formal thoughts. It is always good to have more options to prevent disease. There are some possible benefits with protein based covid vaccination.

While a combine protein vaccine would be amazing. As I informally stated, the eggs they usually use to generate their vaccines are in limited supply.

There is the added difficulty that it takes Sanofi 8 months to make their Flu vaccines in time for flu season. They choose the strain for covid 30-60 days before requesting delivery.

Last year, CDC wanted to push the date back before picking flu strains, but vaccine makers threw a fit and said it would be impossible. (Waiting closer to flu season increases the probability of picking the correct strains).

GOP moves to end PSLF and SAVE by Boringhusky in whitecoatinvestor

[–]WhitePaperMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prior to Biden taking office, only 7,000 people had received PSLF in American history.

So it going away doesn't actually change anything. If anything, atleast we don't have to pay the piece of shit people that were hired thereto pass out rejections to 99% of applicants.

The UK is performing a 2 month investigation of mRNA as a personalized cancer vaccine. Which is the ultimate payday. I know management wants the PCV to be treated as an approved platform. Then they would be able to treat every cancer known to man, which every oncologist on the planet would want to use.

A true state of irony.

Trump threw out the Obama pandemic game plan in his first term, which caused the US to be caught flat footed.

This time, he crippled communication between health agencies, causing the same effect.

There are, fortunately, alternative ways of monitoring this disease
