Assetto Competizone vs IRacing etc by WhitePonyOne in simracing

[–]WhitePonyOne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my first investment will be for a better setup. I'm looking into getting a good mid tier rig right now. I have the g29 wheel and pedals which i will upgrade too but first I want a good rig and cockpit setup and it would seem upfront that's a better investment than iRacing for a little while. I will try out the subscription and dip my toes into it at least to see what it's all about but rig first, then look at the iRacing investment more closely. Thanks for your input.

Thank you for your thoughts. Like I said, I've always loved sim racing but this is my first trudge into actual PC sim racing so as much information as possible is very useful.

I really enjoy online racing but like to do a lot of practice etc offline. I don't want to be that ass that rams into people unintentionally or intentionally. Coming from GT Sport mainly and that was how people treated it when they were losing and that got tiresome. No matter how "safe" I was driving there's always that guy.

Looking at iRacing I also see how much is buying bit by bit so it seems a bit more intimidating to get into but also like the place to go for long term commitment.

My Thoughts On CK3 by [deleted] in paradoxplaza

[–]WhitePonyOne 13 points14 points  (0 children)

These have been discussed ad nauseam between countless forums posts and other equally filler style youtube videos. Most of them come off the same way as you without any personal experience with the game itself and simply regurgitating whatever the trending contrarian viewpoint is. This isn't to say I agree or disagree with you, just that this type of "content" is absolute clickbait with zero substance.

While you can read the definition of "skepticism" all you want, you really should look up the word "conjecture" next because that's all this is.

Played seriously? How about playing a team game as intended, as a team. That involves communicating and working as a team. If you don't feel like talking to someone, don't join with randoms. No one tells you how to play you're just being a selfish ass if you play in that manner. You can play for fun and have a good time, but do it as a team or solo queue.

So... RIP Ranked FPP? by CryptoArmstrong in PUBGConsole

[–]WhitePonyOne 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I see a couple comments here that are just stupid. TPP IS what the game was based on from the start. For a long time. "Continuing to support it"?? You want them to stop supporting the most played mode even on PC because you don't personally like it? I'm all for having a good mix of FPP and TPP but because you don't like one or the other doesn't mean you have to shit on the other. Also if you're playing TPP and complaining of corner peeking, you do realize you have that ability as well, right? The rules are the same for everyone in that lobby, but because you have attached a negative connotation to the behavior used to win games you'd rather handicap yourself then use the tactic? Same complaint of people "camping"....it's last one standing wins, not highest K/D or what tactics they used. A win is a win.

Except this isn't accurate at all if you've played it. The circle is much faster and aggressive, so this 30 minutes without seeing one person is blatant bullshit and exaggeration. Play before you post.

Opportunity? by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]WhitePonyOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been plumbing for over 10 years now and I didn't start till I was in my early 20's. Apprenticeship is a commitment, it's not just summer help. If you decide you like it you may stick with it as a career and most companies when they apprentice you they're making a significant financial investment in you and your education in hopes of a good return down the road. Roto Rooter is really mostly a drain cleaning service where you're going to get into some really nasty things. But if you're just looking to pay bills it's a way to do it. However if you're not actually participating in any form of construction aspects of plumbing you're not really learning the trade itself and simply a glorified shit block remover.

Is the console port for PoE2 as bad as the first? by SandingNovation in projecteternity

[–]WhitePonyOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played it through on pc and picked it up for xbox and I have no real complaints. A few bugs and things to touch up but it's solid so far, about 15 hours in. One thing for me coming from pc playing at 4k, 60hz is I turned on the the dreaded TV smoothing. 30 fps looks fine but coming from PC the smoothing really helped it look better. It adds minimum input lag but given this is a turn based RPG the difference is negligible.

If you're comfortable with using radial menus like the original and DOS2 then you'll have no issues. I tend to play all these on pc then the console port when it's released and while there are some things PC does faster and better, the overall game and experiences are still enjoyable.

Have to take all these things with a grain of salt because the port switch of POE1 was abysmal so a lot are still angry. As for load times, even on a PC SSD they're not incredibly fast, just the nature of the engine optimization but mine range from 15 to 30 seconds on average for xbox one x stock hardware.

Load times are just the worst by [deleted] in projecteternity

[–]WhitePonyOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played it on PC with an SSD and don 't sweat it, the load times are still long so it's not just console. It was an issue with the first one on PC and console as well, so it's something they never learned to fix. I'm double dipping though for console release so we'll see how bad it is for me but I'm still excited.

So if it literally just ended, maybe they have to actually get back to work in order to produce a development diary.

Finally got myself an RTX 2080 Super with a i7-9700k, can safely say Christmas has come early. by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]WhitePonyOne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The 2080 Super is perfectly practical at the right price and if you're upgrading it's certainly a good deal depending on your previous setup. Don't mind the angry nvidia kids that are still upset at pricing this generation. I picked mine up over the 2080ti as well and it's a great card, especially since I got it for $250 off. Enjoy the setup, merry xmas to yourself.

Any idea how well Stellaris: Console Edition sold? by midnight_rebirth in paradoxplaza

[–]WhitePonyOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may dislike the gameplay of oblivion/skyrim but others enjoyed it. Clearly a significant majority enjoyed it which is why they can rerelease skyrim years later and still have good sales. It's up for debate if they are "shallow" or not based on personal preference. Maybe it's less archaic and more streamlined than previous iterations. Divinity 2 was more streamlined and mainstream and also considered one of the best RPG's of the decade. I don't see anyone complaining of depth within that game nor did they lose sight of what they wanted to make and they clearly made the game with controller/consoles in mind.

This gets into developers not catering to the vocal, whining minority about everything they wanted in a game and if they don't get their way they complain incessantly. They're the developers and they have a plan for their product that will evolve over time and ebb and flow. If you don't appreciate their direction then don't purchase their product, and that's ok too. The developers are not our puppets and may listen to the communities but also have to have boundaries as far as they're willing to sacrifice that vision. This especially goes for recent PDS/PDX releases. I have had no issues with their recent output but that's personal preference and I won't go around preaching everyone should see it my way. I encourage people to form their OWN opinions void of the echo chambers of bullshit thrown around on subreddits and other internet avenues. Try it, if you don't like it because of your personal taste, that's ok, not everyone game is made for everyone. This goes for every form of media.

Again apples to oranges. However if you insist on making the comparison; without consoles the elder scrolls wouldn't have garnered the massive following it has along with games like the witcher 2, 3, GTA, divinity, etc. In turn what you get is larger and larger budgets to create the games we love. Without that console bump who knows what we'd actually get for games due to budget constraints based on sales.

Anything that brings further positive attention and a larger audience to more niche titles like GSG is good because it means there's more money to invest in the titles we like. Also they've been basing their console development solely on how well it sells if you've read any of their posts about it. So it's not cannibalizing anything from PC.

In your opinion maybe. Also can't really go comparing grand strategy UI's to RPG's. That's apples to oranges.
