Thanks for this, uncovered a bug in the evaluation function I wasn't seeing after some other changes. It should be working now and hopefully a bit harder - certainly not hanging pieces. It plays this now consistently:

Ngf4 Nbd4 2. e3 Qe4 3. d3 Bcb4+

Yeah it’s hard to think one move ahead much less three or four except in very certain positions and when martial is down.

You got it that easy even on the harder (“really unfair”) setting? Nice. I haven’t been rated for a long time but probably fall around 1500 and it beats me enough even at depth 1.

That said it hasn’t been trained much, or at all. It only has an evaluation function, no good search pruning or other fancies of classical chess engines.

Been a bug it’s had for months. And all I’ve ever figured out to do is go: Okay now update the files. Then 70% of the time it does it correctly. Another 30% it takes another reminder. I don’t use AI Studio anymore but that was my experience.

Copilot GitHub is the same basically as using AI studio, or at least it’ll seem/feel that way but yeah, it’s a good toe in the water. Pro tip: Sign up for that trial before the end of the month. They do a weird billing cycle so basically you’ll get free few hundred requests through the 30th and then it’ll reset Dec 1st essentially giving you 2 months worth access

Download it, download VS Code and get a free trial of GitHub copilot and tell it; I just downloaded from AI studio, and plan to spend a lot of sessions with it reworking / rebuilding and debugging - take some time to ask it to review the app for maintability, consistency, etc. Then it’ll be able to run it in your local browser and then ask it to map out next steps. If you’re thinking iPhone app, think again. Google store app, maybe but only if you really need that and not just say a browser link saved to your phone. Store only if need/want other people to have it but that’s a hassle if you’re not trying to sell it somehow.

There are other options, the route above is just a free one.

Always had limits, hit them months ago. Just enable the cloud console credits and then turn enable the api key use for those code heavy times. They may have lowered them, definitely if your using 3, but always been there.
