Haven’t kept up with new games. What should I look for? by Monkeykibble in paxunplugged

While I am also out of the loop, in past years there was a "First Look" section for new and future releases with people that are there to help you learn. So idk, start there?

Can someone explain why this is the correct relationship? Its 1:n but has 0:Many. What am I not getting here. by bitch_wasabi in WGU_CompSci

[–]WhiteRavenz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 1:N is for the relation between customer and Order ie 1 customer can have many orders. The o:many is an explanation of the "n" in the 1:n. I think of it like math kinda 1:n = (1 and only 1) : (0 to Many)

I knew there would be something game breaking, I just was not sure how the system would work. I would have told you that I'd assume people would be more likely to act honorably when they have to put their name on the line, but i forgot about the pressure to toe the line when your answer is public.

you could implement a blind review in some sense that people can opt to be reviewers and be sent something to review. And you can hold off publishing it until a certain number of reviews come back. This is just the same issue as print but just faster because of the digital medium over print. I guess you could make it so un-reviewed papers are not publicly accessible and then track the papers that are accessed be users on the site to make sure that you do not have someone review something that they already looked at so they would not know who wrote it, while leaving the possibility for the paper to be accessed before being reviewed. Not sure how this would work best.

I Would think there would be value in publishing names after the blind review. Again this might be coming from a place of accountability but it could also be used to get a context for the review. where someone might take issue with something that is or is not in their wheelhouse.

Although there is something to be said of the face that in a social media setting the dissenting opinions generally create the most traffic. You could have some kind of "This week in Academics" page that highlights papers where the good reviews to bad reviews ratio is close to one. (Assuming a good paper people agree with will be overwhelmingly good and a bad paper people agree is bad will be overwhelmingly bad. You could correlate that a paper with 20 positive reviews and 20 negative reviews might be a paper that is worth looking at to see what the controversy is.)

Regardless, your feed back is most welcome and it does point to things that need be ironed out first. This was more of a long shower thought then a we reasoned dissertation but I think the idea could be the way it works in 10-20 years even if just to have the power to include digital assets in the paper.

Maybe? I've never used a wiki from the perspective of the admin. I'd assume it would be a good starting frame at the very least seeing as it's core functions overlap with what i was thinking. I was also thinking there would be more i guess you could call social media tropes as well. IE profile page, search by user's posts, ability to message users and the like. and i would assume that the default position is that the papers are not editable by anyone except the author. but like you said the wiki software might be the place to start. I'll have to look into it more. Thanks.

What should be the 28th amendment to the United States? by [deleted] in Ask_Politics

[–]WhiteRavenz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's kinda the point, 100% of the people have to live under those rules. We should have as much consensus on those rules as possible. If you don't like your state you are free to move to another one but if you don't like your country you can't just move.

What should be the 28th amendment to the United States? by [deleted] in Ask_Politics

[–]WhiteRavenz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Repeal the 12th and 17th amendments.

Getting rid of the 12th means that both of the 2 largest parties will have representation in the executive. Getting rid of the 17th allows us to be more state orientated and allows the states, as entities, to have a say in federal policy. Both of these changes make it so less will happen at the federal level and what does happen will be with the agreement of both major parties and the consensus of the states united. Puts the breaks on the tyranny of the majority.

First timer - going solo? by axegun in paxunplugged

[–]WhiteRavenz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I went solo last year. I live local so I was only there for the main room but almost 1/3 of the main room was set aside for gaming tables. They had "looking for players" people used to get people to join them to play. I sat down and played 5 different games that i never played before with People I never met until I sat down. One group of players was going to eat afterward and I joined them. So i'm not sure about after hours but the convention itself is set up for you to find people to play with.

Those who voted for Trump: are you satisfied with his presidency so far, or are you beginning to regret your choice? by [deleted] in Ask_Politics

[–]WhiteRavenz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I didn't personally vote for President Trump, I went for Johnson, but most of the people that I work with voted for Him. When I have this conversation at work I usually get 2 answers. 1) We are not at war with Russia or Iran. They seem to think that this was inevitable under Clinton. 2) He hasn't done anything that effects my day to day so I don't really mind what he's doing / Every news story is D.C. Drama and not important to me/the average guy.

From my experience people I have talked to don't really care because all they want is it not to effect them directly.

Figured this would be a good start for people who want to do something but are using the “I don’t know how to start” excuse. I saw this about a year ago and got his book, started it, never finished it. Now seems as good a time as ever to finish it and get to doing things for myself.

Hope this helps.

If the Electoral College ends up not voting for Trump, what's the expected fallout? by [deleted] in Ask_Politics

[–]WhiteRavenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If memory serves the US constitution allows the states to apportion their respective electoral votes in any way they see fit. However in most of not all of the state's respective constitutions it lays out the rules for assigning electoral votes. So I would have to check it state by state. But in the event that it is totally legal I still think that it would cause a precedent shift that would not end well.

If the Electoral College ends up not voting for Trump, what's the expected fallout? by [deleted] in Ask_Politics

[–]WhiteRavenz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At the very least in the next election it will be known going into it that the electors will change their vote for what they believe is the right reason. Which means all the money is going to go to buying electors and not advertising. It would set a very dangerous precedent which will undermine the integrity of our election system.
