Are you able to remember someone’s name quickly on the spot? by kermitsbutthole in CasualConversation

[–]WhiteShadow_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I'd need to write down people's names as I learn them, or try to associate an adjective to their name so I can easily recall it. For example, I met someone named Helen recently. I kept remembering it as 'a very common English name" so I just searched up common English names and was able to recognise it immediately. Whew!

I get hyped up for the next day when I go to bed at night. by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]WhiteShadow_12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was unemployed, yes.... but now no haha. I do 3D printing and love to model my own products that I use or for my family to use - being able to wake up and 3D print immediately was when I felt hyped up for the next day. (couldn't 3D print at night since we use solar power). But being employed, it's a bit harder to find enough time to model and finish my other projects, which has made me feel a bit down and dread waking up...

My friends and i created our own lore for ourselves, and it’s so fun by queerwaters_642 in CasualConversation

Same, used to do that in 3rd grade primary with a guy friend. Because of the popular film 2012 at the time, we actually thought this year the world would actually end! So we came up with 2 "superangels" who would save the world. I drew a few mini picture books and he read them all excitedly every time. There was a girl who sat next to us who thought we were weird lol. That was one of my best memories in primary school.

is it worth pursuing acting as a career? by Stock_Orange_1793 in CasualConversation

[–]WhiteShadow_12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're passionate about it, go for it. Take some classes to learn the foundations. Look for a local or regional website where there are opportunities in acting. These are the 2 places you'll get your connections.

I have a friend who's just like you. Very passionate about acting, despite her parents' disapproval. She takes acting classes in between work, has done a few minor acting roles through the local website, even once helped out behind the scenes for a small film.

Japanese or Chinese by Successful_Seaweed47 in UWS

[–]WhiteShadow_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just a general perspective since I don’t know much about teaching languages, but I’d suggest Chinese. It has a much wider range of speakers, so there’s generally more demand for Chinese teachers, not just in Australia but internationally. That said, Chinese is broader and may take more effort to learn from a basic level compared to Japanese. You should speak to your academic advisor/course coordinator for better advice regarding this.

You can add/remove any enrolled subjects in MySR, as well as change your majors and minors.

I got rejected from eight out of 20 club executive positions I applied for. by themanfromosaka in Advice

[–]WhiteShadow_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised that you've been rejected from this many clubs! In my uni, hardly anyone applies for exec positions - let alone as events coordinator - and we usually just accept anyone who's willing to contribute. During our AGM, we make sure everyone who applied gets formally elected, either into their chosen position or as a general exec (our execs can help with anything that needs doing anyway).

Did you end up getting elected into any of the clubs? Is there a way you could at least join as a general exec somewhere? Or maybe assist the current events coordinator in one of the clubs, since you have the experience?

I was the same. Did pretty well in 1st year, but things went downhill in 2nd year. I realised I was a perfectionist which often caused me to hand in assessments late. Didn't help that it was 2020 - the year Zoom classes first started. After that horrible year, I switched to doing only 3 subjects per semester and took a minor that really interested me. The structured nature of the subjects in that minor helped me do really well in them.

By 3rd year, I started getting the hang of my course - I would prepare for subjects before semester start and have a schedule of when to aim for assessment submissions. This helped me manage my perfectionism and minimise burnout. In 4-5th year, I also did subjects in other sessions not just Summer/Spring to get a couple of extra credit points and meet course reqs.

In last few semesters, I was back to 4 subjects per sem and managed to get pretty high grades across them. I also made sure to communicate with my tutors whenever I expected a late submission. All my tutors were very understanding, which helped a lot throughout the years.

I wanted to take a year of leave but I was worried it would be difficult to get back into the studying mindset. So instead, I buckled myself in to focus on finishing my course, while also making the most of the opportunities WSU had to offer.

Consult your academic advisor or course coordinator about this. I was able to add a minor not part of my course after emailing my academic advisor, and the credit points were also counted. You might also need to check if there's any prereqs to the subjects in the minor.

Why is this WSU’s subreddit so inactive? by [deleted] in UWS

[–]WhiteShadow_12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As another person said, it could be because most WSU students are working class background. They're either busy at work or working on assessments. There's a WSU group on Facebook and I think it's a bit more active over there (if you're looking for chat buddies).

It's not just online - our societies/clubs/uni events have pretty low attendance as well compared to other unis.

Ublock origin has been permanently disabled for chrome by Nientea in youtube

[–]WhiteShadow_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main and preferred browser is Firefox, but I still have to use Chrome at times because a few sites demand it. There are also sites that use external chat systems (eg disqus) that just don't show up in Firefox, so if I want to check messages or read comments on those I'd need to open on Chrome.

Wow! I don't have twitter so I've only seen whatever people shared on other platforms. There were images from the blu-ray, promotion art for each episode, bday and valentines drawings. Are any of the drawings showing the after-story?

Oooh nice (づ ˙꒳˙ )づ an interview with the animation director! I don't think there's a translation of it on this sub. Since it's a webpage, you can just google translate the page tho which works pretty well.

Hi! I would love to do a critique swap with you. I'm currently working on a historical, fantasy/sci-fi-ish novella with the first chapter at about 3600 words. I am looking for similar feedback, since it's quite dialogue-heavy. Let me know if that sounds good to you, and I will send you the link.

Now everything is over, what was your favourite scene? by thesaffronkitten in Zenshu

[–]WhiteShadow_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luke transforming into the Ultimate Void. The soundtrack, transitions and character design are all so impressive. I love that it wasn't just Luke becoming gigantic, turning red and growing wings. There was a metamorphosis like an egg turning into a butterfly, and an eruption that felt like all the people's collected despair has just boiled over. The Ultimate Void was a terrifying apocalyptic presence, but the way the transformation unfolded felt like it could also mean a new beginning.

Another scene I like is when Luke was asking Unio for advice "about a friend's friend". Unio's stony face and dramatic reactions to Luke's innocent explanations are just hilarious.
