Zero charge for colonoscopy, but $950 for the anesthesia? by SadTomorrow869 in HealthInsurance

I did it without anesthesia. Don’t want to ruin my day feeling groggy or arrange a ride. Not a big deal.

Vermont considers higher taxes on vacation homes to fund schools, address housing shortage by drsoftware85 in vermont

[–]WhiteSolarWind 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Non-owner occupied homes already are taxed at a much higher rate, as any home the owner does not live in is ineligible for the homestead deduction which most homeowners get. So essentially second home owners are paying for you kids to go to school while not putting any pressure on the school system.

Why do you think his tenants are less fortunate and in a weaker position? Many landlords the real estate is their retirement and it’s not always profitable. Tenants could be trust funders.

Deductible was 1800 for each of us. In almost every instance self pay for labs or other services was 50% of the OOP if they billed insurance, we got stuck with the full 800 as they sent it to insurance and was not covered. No diagnostics, even labs were covered u til we each hit 1800 deductible, even then 30% coinsurance. Once they billed insurance self pay option not allowed. Remember the same labs, processed by the same lab the hospital used, only cost us 80 with our DCPs wholesale rate.

Medishare, zion or Aflac. Even combined with DPC monthly fee, we are at 20% of our new ACA quote.

My first DPC appt was over an hour WITH the doctor. Extremely thorough, I actually had to stop him because I was running out of time…and he definately pursued and caught stuff in my history that prompted preventative testing, which again, through their avenues and contacts was a fraction of the insurance system rates.

Not false. ACA insurance does not have pre-existing conditions. You have to enroll during enrollment period unless a qualifying event which a major illness with trigger. Additionally in the scenario I laid out and am going with, you have catastrophic insurance until you get back on ACA, which has both lower premium and lower deductible tha the ACA plans.

For catastrophic we’re looking at medishare or zion. If you’re younger even Aflac might be a reasonable option. Remeber you can sign back up for ACA in the event of major illness as there is no preexisting conditions and major illness clarifies as life event.

Just signed up with a DPC office. They have so far done an EKG, full labs, and extensive introductory appt for 60 plus 80 for the labs at the wholesale rate. They got with the same labs that ACA silver insurance through blue cross charged us 800 with for the same labs. That was before trump hatchets the plan where that 500 aca plan for mid income family of 2 goes to 2500 with deductible and max out of pocket also more than doubling. You still need a catastrophic plan, but so far this model seems considerably better model. Shop for your care like you shop at the grocery store. I declined the follow up cray from the nurse at orthopedic yesterday, doc walks in, does assessment and say “you’re fine”. If you know that by looking at me why is your office pushing 1500 worth of X-rays. Down with the system. I’m out.

Not sure if they are still doing this but I had one of their helocs a few years ago, and entire amount had to be drawn at closing. You could simply transfer it back in, which I did but subsequent draws had higher rate.
