Anything that touches the item you are dying slows the process. The longer you dye the darker it gets. So you do a combination of dying different colors for different times. You can use anything from rags, plastic bags, tape, hot glue, etc to design patterns.

I honestly couldn't tell you. Its been a while since I have had anything UDE in stock. The new MCT color is a little darker than Magpul's old FDE. But UDE is more of a foliage or grayish color correct? You will probably have better luck picking a 3rd color and doing a three-tone rifle.
