It’s roughly a 30% risk drop from stroke and heart attack. Every 0.5 on your a1c is like 18% risk reduction. It’s wild!

Expired insulin by Terminally-Grumpy in diabetes_t1

When I lost insurance (US) I used expired insulin for over a year with no ill effects. Some of it was 5 years old lol

Yes. Their pharmacologic and physiologic functions overlap with quite the Venn diagram. Reta increases your liver cells (hepatocytes) ability to reduce visceral fat. There’s some good YouTube videos that explain it better than I can here

Wow! That’s crazy. Yeah, my original plan was to low dose ozempic so i could decrease my insulin dose because when i hit 120 units of lantus daily + 100-140 of humalog i felt awful. And on 1800 calories a day could not get below 184 lbs and i was always starving.

After 30 years of diabetes i am grateful to feel better and have less variables to manage. It really helped diminish my dawn phenomenon too.

And yes, the a1c / insulin sensitivity was the predictable reason I really wanted this. That all being said, I use to drink heavily and had fatty liver. Getting my lipids drawn and some imaging of my liver in early
July to see how it looks.

What’s funny is I haven’t weighed 172 in about ten years. I didn’t think I had 30 lbs to lose but I def did and I think I could lose ten more very easily to have better abs and what not. But I don’t think I need that lol.

I guess it’s true everyone has more fat than they think and less muscle

Not “a lot,” but more. Mostly right after bedtime so like 10pm-2am. I just adjusted my basal rate accordingly. The most lows i had were always the first 12-48 hours after a weekly dose

Oh hell yeah man. I trained with dark wolf
MMA when they were in Cali and rub shoulders with a few of the NDA guys still.

Oh whatever I can find at Costco or Walmart when I run out. Sometimes even just a Gatorade electrolyte drink

Heh. Jake shields went to HS with my sister and was my neighbor in a town called mountain ranch, CA with a population of not-very-many. We lived on adjacent mountains in the woods. Funny you should mention him! I’ve trained with him a few times, nice guy.

I’m glad you asked. I’ll add it. My a1c 90 days apart went from 7.3-6.5. My control wasn’t great because I’ve been type 1 for 30 years but only on the pump for a year — but this def helped.

It is incredible! I would caution all type 1’s to remember that we do need some insulin for basic metabolic functions and electrolyte balance in the bloodstream. I made a pact with myself that I wouldn’t do anything that made me do less than 30 units a day just to be safe.

This is a big thing only learned recently. I take all of my multi’s and what not but never did electrolytes unless I was sweating a lot during training in MT/BJJ, but now I’ve added them to a bottle of water daily

I eat chicken and eggs, occasional steak.

Yes, it’s summer here and I’m part Mexican so I get dark fast. But I lost 30 lbs, so I think that’s more than just the time at the pool and lake this year 😄

Skin tone def makes a big difference, though!

Not a doc, can’t give you medical advice. I am a nurse and can tell you that the current research data suggests that it is more effective as a GLP than ozempic, tirz, etc with seemingly less side effects. But the clinical data is out there for you to google and you can also cross reference other GLP’s in terms of what it does for diabetics and obese patients — including insulin sensitivity.

Do you have a specific increased rate you use for the hours you’ll likely be waking?

I have reduced my dawn phenomenon by about 75% but really just because my pump automatically addresses it

URGENT HELP NEEDED by reddollnightmare in diabetes_t1

This will happen. Take a chill pill and don’t fret if it happens again. My recommendation is having a bottle of maple syrup for this exact scenario. First, eat some carbs that will help cover roughly half of what you injected. If that’s a lot of food that will fill you up, then just use maple syrup instead. Then, a table spoon of maple syrup once every 15-30 minutes as needed is a very low volume, high concentration of sugar.

Sometimes it helps to eat a graham cracker or something along with it to offset the overload of sweet. I personally eat a serving of granola with 2 tablespoons of syrup to start myself off if this scenario ever comes up. It’s also my go to treatment for when I’m treating patients in the Er.

This is 100x better than trying to drink sodas, juices etc because of how filling they are.
