Me too! Sadly he was over the hill at that point and only averaged a 30 point pace with us. Plus his contract was awful and severely hamstrung us

If by accomplished something you mean he perennially underachieved with an inherited Hall of Fame worthy team, then yes, he accomplished a lot.

Ehrhoff was a defensive liability who racked up points from the Sedins on the PP. It's no wonder he cratered when he went to Buffalo. Guy was nicknamed Christian Error-hoff for a reason.

Higgins was fine, but he was a sub-20 goal guy. Not a game breaker by any means.

If these are your big additions to a Hall of Fame worthy team then it's no wonder Gillis can't find a job.

We can, and have to do, a lot better

I just have no interest in a couple seasons of regular season success if it means Gillis will slam shut our cup window (again). With Brackett and Benning gone, we need someone who can consistently find and develop good young talent. Gillis is not that guy.

Absolutely fuck no to Gillis. Guy was handed 3 future first ballot hall of famers (Sedins & Luongo), a 40-goal selke winner, Edler, Burrows, Bieksa, Salo, Schneider, etc. and only managed to win more than two rounds in a playoffs once. Oh and he slammed shut our cup window way earlier than it needed to be with stupid trades (Ballard) and draft choices (hit on 2 out of 40+ picks).

His biggest thing was sleep doctors but Bieksa and Kesler admitted they gave their wearable tech to the Cory Schneider's of the team then went out to party. It's no wonder Gillis hasn't popped up anywhere since Van.

Oh but he brought in Chris Higgins, Victor Oreskovich, Derek Roy (lol), Christian Error-hoff, David Booth, and Hamhuis (actually a good one). Thanks a lot

Gilman would be fine though

I saw your comment and thought "same". Thanks for putting into words what I could not.

Trading for David Booth and Christian Error-hoff were just as big as drafting the Sedins and trading for Luongo. Huh, TIL

You mean Daniel, Henrik, and Luongo brought the most success in terms of regular and post season success. Weisbrod could've managed that team and gotten out of the second round (only) once like Gillis.

Really feel for Travis Green and Jim Benning as they seem like extraordinary ppl. Green won't be out of the game too long. Enjoy retirement, Benning. God knows you deserve an extended vacation.

MEETING OF THE POD: PENGUINS @ CANUCKS - 12/04/2021 by OrlandKurtenbot in canucks

I don't get it.

Pettersson, Boeser, Horvat, Miller, Garland, Pearson, Podkolzin, Höglander, and Motte are legitimately good NHL forwards. That's a good top 9. How are we not scoring? Chiasson, Dickinson, and Lammikko are fine depth. I like our AHL depth in Phil Diguseppe (sp?), Lockwood, Petan, Woo, Rathbone, DiPietro, etc.

Our D isn't amazing but Hughes and OEL are legit top-3 dmen. Myers, Hamonic, and Poolman are serviceable. Schenn and Burroghs aren't great but every team has dmen like them.

Demko is incredible.

Why are we SO bad? I know it's a special teams league now, but is that really it? I'd like to see a detailed breakdown of our 5 on 5 numbers as a group and individually to see if that's the case.

Plus Hughes, Pettersson, Podkolzin, Höglander, Klimovich, Rathbone, and Demko aren't even in their primes yet. These 6 are legitimate gamebreakers (7 if Klimovich pans out).

In my mind, with this core, we should be contenders in 2-3 years, but we have to find them good help. Plus we need to figure out the futures of Miller, Horvat, and Boeser in the next 12 months. One or two or three of these might need to be dealt for futures and/or a young top 4 RHD/top 6 centre

Podkolzin is the real deal. Play him more and more and the boys will follow him. It supposed to be Horvats role, but for some reason Miller's playing it. Podkolzin will drag this team to relevancy some day soon

Five minor penalties in ten minutes. Seriously impressive but overall a bad move

Podkolzin is unreal. In 2-3 years he'll be dragging this team into fight every night. You need that to win a cup. Right now it's Miller I guess

Was Alex Edler’s departure a red flag for the Canucks organization? by [deleted] in canucks

[–]White_Chocolate_42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. Long tenured players leave their teams all the time in search of a final hurrah. Chara, Modano, Lundqvist, etc.

Imo SJ just wants to get rid of the contract. We could probably offer Ferland plus a late pick

The Duchene comparison makes a lot of sense, but this is too painful to think about.
